Noise generation by turbulence-propeller interaction in asymmetric flow [PDF]
This paper is concerned with a particular source of both broadband and tonal aeroengine noise, termed unsteady distortion noise. This noise arises from the interaction between turbulent eddies, which occur naturally in the atmosphere or are shed from the

Plasmonic Nanomachines: Creating Local Potential Gradients and Motions
Plasmonic nanomachines can generate optical, thermal, and chemical potential gradients to drive directional rectilinear, rotational, and twisting motions at the nanometer scale. The integration of multimodal plasmonic forces with functional materials and programmed structural distortions enables precise spatiotemporal actuation, thereby providing a ...

Although electrochemical scanning tunneling microscopy provides atomic‐scale access to electrified interfaces, quantitative in situ and operando investigations suffer from drift‐induced distortions. This work introduces the Lattice Fourier Analyzer (LFA), which employs substrate‐anchored affine drift correction in reciprocal space to recover precise ...

Optimal control of the heave motion of marine cable subsea-unit systems [PDF]
One of the key problems associated with subsea operations involving tethered subsea units is the motions of support vessels on the ocean surface which can be transmitted to the subsea unit through the cable and increase the tension.

Unsteady Flow Condition between Front and Rear Rotor of Contra-Rotating Small Sized Axial Fan
Contra-rotating small-sized axial fans are used as cooling fans for electric equipment. In the case of the contra-rotating rotors, the blade row distance between front and rear rotors is a key parameter for the performance and stable operation. The wake and potential interference occur between the front and rear rotors and leakage flow from the ...

Topological Point Defects in SmC* Liquid Crystals Under Mechanical Disturbance
Tangetial air jet shear inducess island formation and nucleates topological point defects in uniform SmC films. Island bounded by edge dislocation loops shrink and transform into isolated point defects under continued shear. Mechanical perturbatio provides a controllable route for defect engineering in smectric liquid crystal thin films.

Influence de la répartition de la charge sur les performances d'une turbomachine axiale contrarotative [PDF]
Due to high requirements of energy consumption level, weight and dimension restriction in many industrial fields, compact axial turbomachines are expected. Counter-rotating axial-flow fans may be a solution.
