Topological Point Defects in SmC* Liquid Crystals Under Mechanical Disturbance

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Tangetial air jet shear inducess island formation and nucleates topological point defects in uniform SmC films. Island bounded by edge dislocation loops shrink and transform into isolated point defects under continued shear. Mechanical perturbatio provides a controllable route for defect engineering in smectric liquid crystal thin films.

Scalable Layer‐by‐Layer Electrospray‐Assisted Interfacial Polymerization: Enabling Large‐Area Polyamide Membrane Fabrication

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
We report a multi‐jet, layer‐by‐layer electrospray‐assisted interfacial polymerization (LBL‐EAIP) approach for the scalable fabrication of polyamide reverse osmosis (RO) membranes. The method enables precise control of polymerization, uniform polyamide coverage, and tunable polyamide film thickness, while delivering consistently high filtration ...

Transducers Across Scales and Frequencies: A System‐Level Framework for Multiphysics Integration and Co‐Design

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Transducers convert physical signals into electrical and optical representations, yet each mechanism is bounded by intrinsic trade‐offs across bandwidth, sensitivity, speed, and energy. This review maps transduction mechanisms across physical scale and frequency, showing how heterogeneous integration and multiphysics co‐design transform isolated ...

Dynamic Current Routing in Conductive Liquid Crystal Elastomers for Complex Deformation Actuators

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This work introduces a novel actuation control strategy in which electrical stimulation generates localized Joule heating in conductive liquid crystal elastomer (LCE) surfaces, enabling complex 3D deformations from a single homogeneous surface without preprogramming.

THE FRAGMENTATION OF ENGLISH CONTRACT LAW – FROM A LAW OF CONTRACT TO A LAW OF CONTRACTS

open access: yes
This article explores how English contract law has shifted from a unified body of principles to a series of specialised regimes that reflect the diversity of modern social and commercial relationships. It begins by outlining the classical model of contract law, grounded in freedom of contract and general rules applicable to all agreements.

Micro Elastofluidics for Tuneable Droplet Merging

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This technical paper provides a proof of concept of fully flexible and stretchable microfluidic technology for tuneable droplet mixing and merging. The phenomenon is justified through theoretical, numerical and experimental studies. ABSTRACT Droplet microfluidics enables precise handling of discrete fluid volumes at the microscale, with broad ...

Relational Self, Harm, and Responsibility – A Contract Law Perspective in Response to the Montesquieu Lecture by Jonathan Herring

open access: yesTilburg Law Review
This paper responds to Professor Jonathan Herring’s Montesquieu Lecture on ‘Criminal Law and the Relational Self: Rethinking Conceptions of Harm and Responsibility in an Interdependent World’ by reflecting on how the tension between individualised and ...
