Explores the behavior of carbon in minerals, melts, and fluids under extreme conditions

Carbon trapped in diamonds and carbonate-bearing rocks in subduction zones are examples of the continuing exchange of substantial carbon ...

Non-contractible loops in the dense O(n) loop model on the cylinder [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
A lattice model of critical dense polymers $O(0)$ is considered for the finite cylinder geometry. Due to the presence of non-contractible loops with a fixed fugacity $\xi$, the model is a generalization of the critical dense polymers solved by Pearce ...

Bond Softening and Elastic Confinement of Monolithic Dense Binary Alloys for High Volumetric Capacity of K‐Ion Battery Anodes

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Synergistically intrinsic‐extrinsic dual‐stabilization engineering to construct dense monolithic alloy architectures is proposed by integrating 2D binary alloy nanosheets into 3D elastic graphene networks. Such a dense monolithic anode achieves high volumetric and areal performance, enabling fast K+ transfer and superior structural recovery during ...

(3+1)-dimensional topological phases and self-dual quantum geometries encoded on Heegard surfaces

open access: yes, 2017
We apply the recently suggested strategy to lift state spaces and operators for (2+1)-dimensional topological quantum field theories to state spaces and operators for a (3+1)-dimensional TQFT with defects.

Excitation basis for (3+1)d topological phases

open access: yes, 2017
We consider an exactly solvable model in 3+1 dimensions, based on a finite group, which is a natural generalization of Kitaev's quantum double model. The corresponding lattice Hamiltonian yields excitations located at torus-boundaries.

Quantum statistics on graphs

open access: yes, 2011
Quantum graphs are commonly used as models of complex quantum systems, for example molecules, networks of wires, and states of condensed matter. We consider quantum statistics for indistinguishable spinless particles on a graph, concentrating on the ...

On the fixed points of a Hamiltonian diffeomorphism in presence of fundamental group [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Let M be a weakly monotone symplectic manifold, and H be a time-dependent Hamiltonian; we assume that the periodic orbits of the corresponding time-dependent Hamiltonian vector field are non-degenerate.

Universal symmetry-protected topological invariants for symmetry-protected topological states

open access: yes, 2013
Symmetry-protected topological (SPT) states are short-range entangled states with a symmetry G. They belong to a new class of quantum states of matter which are classified by the group cohomology $H^{d+1}(G,\mathbb{R}/\mathbb{Z})$ in d-dimensional space.

Strain Engineering of Magnetoresistance and Magnetic Anisotropy in CrSBr

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Biaxial compressive strain significantly enhances magnetoresistance and critical saturation fields in thin flakes of the 2D magnet CrSBr, along all three crystallographic axes. First‐principles calculations link these effects to strain‐induced increases in exchange interactions and magnetic anisotropy.

Hamiltonian Cycles in Polyhedral Maps [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We present a necessary and sufficient condition for existence of a contractible, non-separating and noncontractible separating Hamiltonian cycle in the edge graph of polyhedral maps on surfaces.
