The Generalized Contrast-to-Noise Ratio

2018 IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium (IUS), 2018
Many adaptive algorithms claim to provide higher contrast than delay-and-sum (DAS). These claims are often backed by estimations of the contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR). Intuitively, we assume that higher CNR leads to higher probability of lesion detection, and this is indeed the case for DAS.

An analysis of elastographic contrast-to-noise ratio

Ultrasound in Medicine & Biology, 1998
We present a theoretical formalism and simulation results that allow the incorporation of the elastic contrast properties of tissues with simple geometries into the elastographic noise models developed previously. This analysis results in the computation of the elastographic contrast-to-noise ratio (CNRe).

Contrast‐to‐noise ratios in maximum intensity projection images

Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, 1992
AbstractWe present a statistical analysis of the maximum intensity projection (MIP) algorithm, which is commonly used for MR angiography (MRA). The analysis explains why MIP projection images display as much as a twofold increase in signal‐ and contrast‐to‐noise ratios over those of the source image set.

Quantitative evaluation of active thermography using contrast-to-noise ratio

Applied Optics, 2018
Active thermography is an infrared-based technique for nondestructive testing of materials. It often uses advanced evaluation techniques based on temperature spatial and temporal changes. Results of active thermography are contrast differences, which indicate possible defects in an inspected material.

Contrast-to-Noise-Ratio Measurements in Three-Dimensional Magnetic Resonance Angiography

Investigative Radiology, 1993
The authors report on the development and preliminary validation of a technique for measuring contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) at all points along selected vessel segments in the original three-dimensional magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) dataset.Contrast-to-noise ratio dependencies on flow rate, field of view, and flip angle were measured on images ...
