A technique for the contrast enhancement of a picture is proposed. The method is derived from the entropy concept of information theory. The originality of the algorithm rests on the use of a local contrast to define the digital entropy. The basic idea of the treatment is to enhance the contrast by transforming the global entropy.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging Clinics of North America, 2017
Contrast-enhanced ultrasound imaging is a recently approved technique in the United States that uses a specific contrast agent, namely, microbubbles, consisting mainly of a gas core and a stabilized biological shell. These compounds allow for the visualization of small vascular beds and improve characterization of anatomic structures and lesions.

Contrast adaptation may enhance contrast discrimination
Spatial Vision, 2002Whether contrast adaptation may enhance contrast discrimination is a question that has remained largely unresolved because of conflicting empirical evidence. Greenlee and Heitger (1988), for example, reported that contrast discrimination may be enhanced after contrast adaptation, while Maattanen and Koenderink (1991) did not.

Contrast-Enhanced Ultrasonography
2012Ultrasound is the cornerstone for prostatic imaging and covers diagnostics, therapy monitoring, and follow-up. In the aspect of focal therapy, accurate prostate cancer localization is mandatory. Contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) is a promising imaging technique which has shown to greatly increase the chances to find prostate cancer in biopsies.

Contrast‐enhanced MR angiography
Journal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging, 1993AbstractMagnetic resonance (MR) angiography, although still in its infancy, is recognized as a valuable diagnostic tool. Investigation of the utility of contrast media as applied to MR angiography is, to no surprise, preliminary. In restricted instances, with present techniques, contrast media‐enhanced MR angiography can provide additional valuable ...

Fuzzy-Contextual Contrast Enhancement
IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, 2017This paper presents contrast enhancement algorithms based on fuzzy contextual information of the images. We introduce fuzzy similarity index and fuzzy contrast factor to capture the neighborhood characteristics of a pixel. A new histogram, using fuzzy contrast factor of each pixel is developed, and termed as the fuzzy dissimilarity histogram (FDH).

Contrast-enhanced digital mammography
European Journal of Radiology, 2009CEDM is a recent development of digital mammography using the intra-venous injection of an iodinated contrast agent in conjunction with a mammography examination. Two techniques have been developed to perform CEDM examinations: the temporal subtraction technique with acquisition of high-energy images before and after contrast medium injection and the ...

Contrast-enhanced CT colonography
Seminars in Ultrasound, CT and MRI, 2001Computed tomography (CT) colonography provides both a multiplanar and endoluminal perspective of the air-filled, distended, cleansed colon, offering an alternative to traditional approaches to colorectal cancer screening. However, there are still limitations associated with CT colonography that need to be resolved, including inadequate bowel distention

Contrast enhancement for backpropagation
IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks, 1996This paper analyzes the effect of data-contrast to a backpropagation (BP) network and introduces a data preprocessing algorithm that can improve the efficiency of the standard BP learning. The basic idea is to transform input data to a range that associates the high-slope region of the sigmoid function where a relatively large modification of weights ...

Dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI in pre-clinical imaging allows the in-vivo monitoring of vascular, physiological properties in normal and diseased tissue. There is considerable variation in the methods employed owing to the different questions that can be asked and answered about the physiologic alterations as well as morphologic changes in tissue.
