Contrast sensitivity function of preschool children. [PDF]

open access: yesBritish Journal of Ophthalmology, 1981
A procedure specifically adapted for children of preschool age has been used to measure contrast sensitivity in emmetropic children aged 3 to 5 years. Mothers of the children acted as adult observers using the same procedure. The results show that the contrast sensitivity function of adults and children is very similar, sensitivity for the children ...

Clinical Insights Into Hypercalcemia of Malignancy in Childhood

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hypercalcemia of malignancy (HCM) is a rare but life‐threatening metabolic emergency in children that occurs in less than 1% of pediatric cancer cases, with a reported incidence ranging from 0.4% to 1.0% across different studies. While it is observed in 10%–20% of adult malignancies, pediatric HCM remains relatively uncommon.

Psychophysical measurements of luminance and chromatic spatial and temporal contrast sensitivity in Duchenne muscular dystrophy [PDF]

open access: yes
In children with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, color vision losses have been related to dystrophin deletions downstream of exon 30, which affect a dystrophin isoform, Dp260, present in the retina.

Evaluating the Utility of Paired Tumor and Germline Targeted DNA Sequencing for Pediatric Oncology Patients: A Single Institution Report

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To evaluate the diagnostic yield and utility of universal paired tumor–normal multigene panel sequencing in newly diagnosed pediatric solid and central nervous system (CNS) tumor patients and to compare the detection of germline pathogenic/likely pathogenic variants (PV/LPVs) against established clinical referral criteria for cancer ...

Photometric Trends in the Visible Solar Continuum and Their Sensitivity to the Center-to-Limb Profile [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Solar irradiance variations over solar rotational time-scales are largely determined by the passage of magnetic structures across the visible solar disk.

Pulmonary Dysfunction Is Associated With Sleep Study Abnormalities in Children With Sickle Cell Disease: A Multicenter Study

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Pulmonary dysfunction and sleep abnormalities are common in children with sickle cell disease (SCD) and are associated with worse clinical outcomes. Whether spirometry abnormalities are associated with polysomnography (PSG) findings remains unclear.

What can 14 CO measurements tell us about OH? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The possible use of 14CO measurements to constrain hydroxyl radical (OH) concentrations in the atmosphere is investigated. 14CO is mainly produced in the upper atmosphere from cosmic radiation.

Contrast sensitivity and magnocellular functioning in schizophrenia

open access: yesVision Research, 2007
It has been suggested that schizophrenia is associated with a magnocellular deficit. This would predict a loss of contrast sensitivity at low spatial and/or at high temporal frequencies. We here review research that tested contrast sensitivity in individuals with schizophrenia.
