A model based design framework for safety verification of a semi-autonomous inspection drone [PDF]
In this paper, we present a model based design approach to the development of a semi-autonomous control system for an inspection drone. The system is tasked with maintaining a set distance from the target being inspected and a constant relative pose ...

Self-triggered Control for Safety Critical Systems using Control Barrier Functions [PDF]
We propose a real-time control strategy that combines self-triggered control with Control Lyapunov Functions (CLF) and Control Barrier Functions (CBF). Similar to related works proposing CLF-CBF-based controllers, the computation of the controller is achieved by solving a Quadratic Program (QP).

We present the cellular transcription‐coupled Flp‐nick system allowing the introduction of a Top1‐mimicking cleavage complex (Flpcc) at a Flp recognition target site within a controllable LacZ gene. LacZ transcription leads to the collision of RNA polymerase II (RNAPII) with Flpcc, and this causes RNAPII stalling, ubiquitination, and degradation.

Hardware platform design of small energy storage system using second life batteries [PDF]
As the number of electric vehicles (EV) increases rapidly, the reclamation and repurposing of used EV batteries into energy storage systems (ESSs) becomes a promising way to extend battery life and to generate extra revenues.

Ensemble controllability by Lie algebraic methods [PDF]
We study possibilities to control an ensemble (a parameterized family) of nonlinear control systems by a single parameter-independent control. Proceeding by Lie algebraic methods we establish genericity of exact controllability property for finite ensembles, prove sufficient approximate controllability condition for a model problem in $\mathbb{R}^3 ...

Interaction extracellular vesicles (iEVs) are hybrid vesicles formed through host‐pathogen communication. They facilitate immune evasion, transfer pathogens' molecules, increase host cell uptake, and enhance virulence. This Perspective article illustrates the multifunctional roles of iEVs and highlights their emerging relevance in infection dynamics ...

Model development and energy management control for hybrid electric race vehicles [PDF]
A Hybrid Electric Vehicle longitudinal dynamics model for the control of energy management is developed. The model is implemented using Simulink and consists of a transitional vehicle speed input parameterized by, for example, the New European Driving ...

Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) accounts for half of the heart failure cases. It is characterised by microvascular dysfunction, associated with reduced pericyte coverage and diminished STAT3 expression in pericytes. Loss of STAT3 impairs pericyte adhesion, promotes senescence, and activates a pro‐fibrotic gene program.

Distributed model predictive control for the atmospheric and vacuum distillation towers in a petroleum refining process [PDF]
This paper develops a distributed model predictive control strategy for the atmospheric and vacuum distillation tower, which constitutes a key process involved in refining petroleum.

Ion channel function of polycystin‐2/polycystin‐1 heteromer revealed by structure‐guided mutagenesis
Mutations in polycystin‐1 (PC1) or polycystin‐2 (PC2) cause autosomal‐dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD). We generated a novel gain‐of‐function PC2/PC1 heteromeric ion channel by mutating pore‐blocking residues. Moreover, we demonstrated that PC2 will preferentially assemble with PC1 to form heteromeric complexes when PC1 is co‐expressed ...
