Electromagnetically controllable osteoclast activity
Bone, 2014The time-varying electromagnetic field (EMF) has been widely studied as one of the exogenous stimulation methods for improving bone healing. Our previous study showed that osteogenic differentiation of adipose-derived stem cells was accelerated by a 45-Hz EMF, whereas a 7.5-Hz EMF inhibited osteogenic marker expression.

Active Control of Bias for the Control of Posture and Movement
Journal of Neurophysiology, 2010Posture and movement are fundamental, intermixed components of motor coordination. Current approaches consider either that 1) movement is an active, anticipatory process and posture is a passive feedback process or 2) movement and posture result from a common passive process.

Active continuous quality control
Proceedings of the 16th International ACM Sigsoft symposium on Component-based software engineering, 2013We present Active Continuous Quality Control (ACQC), a novel approach that employs incremental active automata learning technology periodically in order to infer evolving behavioral automata of complex applications accompanying the development process.

On the controllability of activated sludge plants
2020 European Control Conference (ECC), 2020In this work, the full-state controllability properties of a biological wastewater treatment plant are analysed. Specifically, the five biological reactors in the Benchmark Simulation Model no. 1 are studied. For the task, we represented the activated sludge plant as a dynamical system consisting of 65 states, 7 controls and 27 disturbances as a ...

Optimal Control of Neuronal Activity
Physical Review Letters, 2003We investigate the optimal control of neuronal spiking activity for neurons receiving a class of random synaptic inputs, characterized by a positive parameter alpha. Optimal control signals and optimal variances are found exactly for the diffusion process approximating an integrate and fire model.

Active control of mechanical vibrations
Bell Labs Technical Journal, 2009Recent advances in digital signal processing and actuation technology have opened the door to applying active control to reducing mechanical vibrations and acoustic noise. Because these techniques work best at lower frequency, they complement conventional passive damping techniques, which are most effective at higher frequencies.

Active control of intracellular pH
Respiration Physiology, 1978When the interior of a squid giant axon is loaded with acid, the cell responds by extruding that acid in an energy-requiring process. Our results indicate that this acid extrusion is accomplished by exchanging external HCO3- for internal Cl- at the expense of ATP.

Active Spacecraft Potential Control
Space Science Reviews, 1997Charging of the outer surface or of the entire structure of a spacecraft in orbit can have a severe impact on the scientific output of the instruments. Typical floating potentials for magnetospheric satellites (from +1 to several tens of volts in sunlight) make it practically impossible to measure the cold (several eV) component of the ambient plasma ...

Algorithms for Active Noise Control
2009The previous regulations about acoustics in buildings ruled only isolation, forgetting other important subjects. The new code in Spain, specifically the DB-HR document, also include the regulations of excessive noise reverberating that produces and causes discomfort in many cases non-speech intelligibility, this circumstance is crucial in certain areas.
