Control and Financial Engineering
2003The paper provides a review of the basics of financial engineering, with a few examples. We emphasize connections with control theory in a broad sense rather than with stochastic control theory in particular, and the reader is not assumed to be versed in stochastic processes.

A control engineer's guide to sliding mode control
Proceedings. 1996 IEEE International Workshop on Variable Structure Systems. - VSS'96 -, 1999This paper presents a guide to sliding mode control for practising control engineers. It offers an accurate assessment of the so-called chattering phenomenon, catalogues implementable sliding mode control design solutions, and provides a frame of reference for future sliding mode control research.

Control Theory is at the heart of information and communication technologies of complex systems. It can contribute to meeting the energy and environmental challenges we are facing. The textbook is organized in the way an engineer classically proceeds to solve a control problem, that is, elaboration of a mathematical model capturing the process behavior,

Abstract Many studies on the automotive engine as a control system have been investigated in order to meet emission regulations and to improve the fuel economy. Sophisticated control systems which, up to the introduction of the microcomputer were a problem, are now easy to realize. In this paper, the fuel supply and ignition timing are considered as

Engineering Control of Furnace Noise
American Industrial Hygiene Association Journal, 1969Abstract Sound pressure levels around furnaces may be hazardous to hearing, interfere with communications, and annoy occupants in adjoining areas. Burners are the most important but not the sole source of noise. Burner premix and combustion noise are described, and methods of noise control for existing installations are illustrated.

Publisher Summary Every variable from pressure, temperature, fluid type, and well depth to logistics and metocean conditions requires control; an uncontrolled variable represents risk to the successful outcome of the well test. A control is a physical barrier, a device or a process that acts to constrain or direct the effects of a variable.

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1980
An electronic engine control system that uses a microcomputer has ben developed. It combines four control systems -- fuel injection, ignition timing, EGR and idle speed control -- utilizing the engine speed and intake air quantity for its main parameters.

Calibrating the Control Engineer
Proceedings of the 45th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 2006When applied to a physical system, a control law needs to be "personalized". It must be adjusted from product to product, family to family. Everyone down the line knows this, from designer to calibrator, to anyone involved with the implementation. So where does the control engineer fit into this scenario? The American Heritage Dictionary doesn't define
