Temperature control - 1: On-off control
1988On-off closed-loop temperature control will often yield results that are quite adequate for industrial applications. Using the methods explained, an approximate process model may be derived from simple tests. The model may then be used to predict approximate values for the period and amplitude of the oscillation of temperature under closed-loop control,

New Electronics
AI models are filling in the blanks in advanced industrial control and robots. But people working on these systems are also wary of letting the AI take full control.

On-Off Control of Thermal Processes
IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics and Control Instrumentation, 1969Common thermal processes, such as fluid heaters, heat-treatment plant, boilers, dryers, vats, etc., can conveniently be modeled by first-order transit-delayed equations. These processes are widely used in industry where they are usually discontinuously controlled by on-off or on-half-off controllers.

Controlling Off-Label Medication Use
Annals of Internal Medicine, 2009Off-label prescribing may lead to innovative new uses of old medications, is essential in such fields as pediatrics, and avoids the lengthy and expensive process of modifying U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) drug labeling. Using medications for unapproved indications, however, raises concerns about patient safety when the drugs have a high ...

In Chapter 2, the parameterization of a stabilizing controller K (Q) for a linear plant in terms of a stable (matrix) transfer function Q is discussed. It is shown that if Q spans the class of all stable proper (matrix) transfer functions, the entire class of stabilizing controllers for the plant is spanned.

Simulation of ON/OFF controlled systems
Civil Engineering Systems, 1985Abstract A method for simulating systems that have components controlled in an ON/OFF manner is presented. The method is particularly suited to systems with an identifiable component structure such as those found in network problems. The primary feature of the method is that control strategies are modelled separately from the dynamics of the physical ...

2010 First IEEE International Conference on Smart Grid Communications, 2010
We're about to acquire a significant new cyber- vulnerability. The world's energy utilities are starting to install hundreds of millions of 'smart meters' which contain a remote off switch. Its main purpose is to ensure that customers who default on their payments can be switched remotely to a prepay tariff; secondary purposes include supporting ...

TRADE OFFS FOR CLIMATE CONTROL
Measuring Business Excellence, 1998As a result of the climate change agreements signed in Rio and Kyoto, in 1992 and 1997 respectively, trading in carbon emissions is a reality. Systems of verification and certification such as that devised by SGS Forestry will underpin the regulation and monitoring of the emerging market.
