Pacific subduction control on Asian continental deformation including Tibetan extension and eastward extrusion tectonics

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
The India-Asia collision has formed the highest mountains on Earth and is thought to account for extensive intraplate deformation in Asia. The prevailing explanation considers the role of the Pacific and Sunda subduction zones as passive during ...

Investigation of Laser Ablation and Brush Pre‐Treatments for AlCu Cold Roll Bonding in Oxygen‐Free Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
It is shown that laser ablation pretreatment under oxygen‐free conditions enables copper–aluminium bonding at significantly lower deformation degrees and improved properties compared to mechanical brushing. Laser ablation further increases interface contact area and induces favourable residual stress states and microstructural compatibility ...

Investigation of ion induced bending mechanism for nanostructures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Ion induced bending is a promising controlled technique for manipulating nanoscale structures. However, the underlying mechanism of the process is not well understood.

The significance of phase reversion-induced nanograined/ultrafine-grained structure on the load-controlled deformation response and related mechanism in copper-bearing austenitic stainless steel.

open access: yesJournal of The Mechanical Behavior of Biomedical Materials, 2020
The ingenious concept of phase reversion annealing involving cold deformation of parent austenite to strain-induced martensite, followed by annealing was used to obtain nano-grained/ultrafine-grained (NG/UFG) structure in a Cu-bearing biomedical ...

Microstructural Evolution and Vacancy Defect Formation in Mn–Mo–Ni RPV Steel Under Low Cycle Fatigue: Insights From EBSD and PALS

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐cycle fatigue damage in Mn–Mo–Ni reactor pressure vessel steel is examined using a combined electron backscatter diffraction and positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy approach. The study correlates texture evolution, dislocation substructure development, and vacancy‐type defect formation across uniform, necked, and fracture regions, providing

Theory of Nonlinear Matter Waves in Optical Lattices

open access: yes, 2004
We consider several effects of the matter wave dynamics which can be observed in Bose-Einstein condensates embedded into optical lattices. For low-density condensates we derive approximate evolution equations, the form of which depends on relation among ...

Titanium trisulfide monolayer: A new direct-gap semiconductor with high and anisotropic carrier mobility [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
A new two-dimensional (2D) layered material, namely, titanium trisulfide (TiS$_3$) monolayer sheet, is predicted to possess desired electronic properties for nanoelectronic applications.

EBSD Study of Creep‐Induced Lattice Misorientation in MgO‐Particle‐Reinforced Austenitic Steel Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Creep experiments at 900°C on coarse‐grained steel‐ceramic composites containing recycled magnesia reveal that higher ceramic volume fractions significantly enhance the creep resistance. Detailed EBSD investigations identify subgrain formation in the steel matrix as the dominant deformation mechanism.

Laser Metal Powder Deposition of Titanium Microalloyed HSLA Steel FeC0.12Si0.25Mn1.3

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates the additive manufacturing of titanium‐doped high‐strength low‐alloy (HSLA) steel via laser metal deposition. It reveals distinct process‐structure relationships for elemental powder blends compared to prealloyed feedstocks.

Kinematics and Timing Constraints in a Transpressive Tectonic Regime: The Example of the Posada-Asinara Shear Zone (NE Sardinia, Italy)

open access: yesGéosciences, 2020
Detailed geological field mapping, integrated with meso- and microstructural investigations, kinematic of the flow and finite strain analyses, combined with geochronology, are fundamental tools to obtain information on the temperature–deformation–timing ...
