Controlled vocabularies for consumer health

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Informatics, 2003
There is often a disconnect between the language that consumers use to express health concerns and the language that is used by health care professionals. At the same time, health care consumerism and the availability of vast health-related resources on the Internet have resulted in millions of persons using the Internet for health-related matters ...

Microplastics from Wearable Bioelectronic Devices: Sources, Risks, and Sustainable Solutions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bioelectronic devices (e.g., e‐skins) heavily rely on polymers that at the end of their life cycle will generate microplastics. For research, a holistic approach to viewing the full impact of such devices cannot be overlooked. The potential for devices as sources for microplastics is raised, with mitigation strategies surrounding polysaccharide and ...

Ontological Realism and Classification: Structures and Concepts in the Gene Ontology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The Gene Ontology (GO), a scientific vocabulary widely used in molecular biology databases, is examined by an analysis of its structure, a comparison of its principles to those of traditional controlled vocabularies, and by a detailed analysis of a ...

Information Transmission Strategies for Self‐Organized Robotic Aggregation

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
In this review, we discuss how information transmission influences the neighbor‐based self‐organized aggregation of swarm robots. We focus specifically on local interactions regarding information transfer and categorize previous studies based on the functions of the information exchanged.

A short guide to increase FAIRness of atmospheric model data

open access: yesMeteorologische Zeitschrift, 2020
The generation, processing and analysis of atmospheric model data are expensive, as atmospheric model runs are often computationally intensive and the costs of ‘fast’ disk space are rising.

Process Parameter Specification and Control in Solution Processing of Hybrid Perovskite Photovoltaics: From Domain‐Specific Jargon to Evidence‐Based, Unambiguous Description of Experimental Workflows

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
Hybrid perovskite solar cells are nearing commercial mass production. Therefore, academic research must tackle the remaining barriers for their large‐scale rollout. One of these is consistent manufacturing yield. Here, evidence is reviewed for the impact of process paramters on perovskite solution processes, finding a great potential for better ...

Controlled Vocabularies in Colectica

open access: yes, 2021
A controlled vocabulary is an organized set of terms. Controlled vocabularies make it easier to make information consistent. They also improve indexing and searching for information. DDI Lifecycle supports using controlled vocabularies for many of its metadata fields. Colectica 6.2 adds support for controlled vocabularies in its desktop and Web tools.

Web services for controlled vocabularies [PDF]

open access: yesBulletin of the American Society for Information Science and Technology, 2007
