The relationship between dental status, food selection, nutrient intake, nutritional status, and body mass index in older people [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
This paper reviewed the findings from a national survey in Great Britain which assessed whether dental status affected older people's food selection, nutrient intake, and nutritional status.

Partial depletion of plasminogen activator inhibitor‐1 decreases subcutaneous fat cell hypertrophy and liver cholesterol in high‐fat‐fed female mice

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Obesity raises blood levels of PAI‐1, a protein linked to metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease in people with obesity. In female mice fed a high‐fat diet, partially lowering PAI‐1 led to smaller subcutaneous fat cells and lower liver cholesterol, without changing body weight or insulin sensitivity.

Prognostic Value of Cheyne-Stokes Respiration and Nutritional Status in Acute Decompensated Heart Failure

open access: yes, 2023
Malnutrition frequently coexists with heart failure (HF), leading to series of negative consequences. Cheyne–Stokes respiration (CSR) is predominantly detected in patients with HF.

Prognostic Impact of Nutritional Status After Transcatheter Edge‐to‐Edge Mitral Valve Repair: The MIVNUT Registry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Background Malnutrition is associated with poor prognosis in several cardiovascular diseases. However, its prognostic impact in patients undergoing transcatheter edge‐to‐edge mitral valve repair (TEER) is not well known.

Metastatic niche shaped by host factors influences disseminated cancer cell fate

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Metastasis is shaped not only by cancer cells but also by the environments they encounter. This review explores how factors such as aging, diet, the microbiome, lifestyle, and environmental exposures remodel organ‐specific niches in the lung, liver, bone, and brain, influencing where metastatic cells survive, remain dormant, or grow, and ultimately ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Prognostic value of the Controlling Nutritional Status (CONUT) score in cancer: an umbrella review of systematic reviews and meta-analyses

open access: yesFrontiers in Nutrition
BackgroundThe Controlling Nutritional Status (CONUT) score, combining serum albumin, total cholesterol, and lymphocyte count, has shown promise as a prognostic biomarker in various cancers, but a comprehensive assessment across different cancer types ...

Controlling Nutritional Status (CONUT) Score as a New Indicator of Prognosis in Patients With Hilar Cholangiocarcinoma Is Superior to NLR and PNI: A Single-Center Retrospective Study

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2021
BackgroundCurrently, many nutritional indicators, including controlling nutritional status score (CONUT), can be used to assess a patient’s nutritional status and have been reported as reliable predictors of multiple malignancies.

Nutritional status following malaria control in a Vietnamese ethnic minority commune [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 2005
To study whether control of malaria leads to catch-up growth or an increase of obesity in a marginally nourished population.A Vietnamese ethnic minority commune in southern Vietnam.Repeated annual anthropometric surveys were performed from 1995 to 2000. Z-scores for height, weight and BMI for age and weight-for-height were determined by using NCHS 1978
