Hydrodynamic Stability in the Presence of a Stochastic Forcing: A Case Study in Convection

open access: yesPhysica D: Nonlinear Phenomena, 2023
We investigate the stability of statistically stationary conductive states for Rayleigh-Bénard convection that arise due to a bulk stochastic internal heating. Our results indicate that stochastic forcing at small magnitude has little to no effect, while strong stochastic forcing has a destabilizing effect.

A Real-Time Calculation Method to Improve Boiler Safety in Deep Peak Shaving Cases

open access: yesEnergies, 2023
To tackle the overheating problem of the heating surface in deep peak shaving, it is urgent to develop working substance (steam) temperature regulation and heating surface safety control technologies that combine combustion and hydrodynamic instability ...

Hydrodynamic stability of Rayleigh-Bénard convection with constant heat flux boundary condition [PDF]

open access: yesQuarterly of Applied Mathematics, 1991
We study the onset of thermal instability with the heat flux prescribed on the fluid boundaries. Assuming Boussinesq fluid, the Landau equation, which describes the evolution of the amplitude of the convection cells, is derived using the small amplitude expansion technique.

Computer simulation for subcritical convection in multi‐component alloys

open access: yesMathematical Modelling and Analysis, 2006
Subcritical convection with hexagonal flow pattern is registered in 3D computer simulation of convective mass transfer in ternary solution under phase transition conditions. The calculations are evaluated by the classical theory of hydrodynamic stability

The study of convergence of additive-averaged splitting based on the scheme of explicit solution for three-dimensional equations of convective diffusion

open access: yesГеофизический журнал, 2015
Modern mathematical forecast models are based on hydrodynamic equations, which are three-dimensional convection diffusion equations in the general form.

Convection of a micropolar fluid with stretch

open access: yesAnnals of Geophysics, 1976
As a model for the Bénard convection in the asthenosphere
the problem of the hydrodynamic stability of an infinite horizontal
layer is calculated. The layer consists of a micropolar fluid with streich.
The field equations
