Conventional stir casting versus ultrasonic assisted stir casting process: Mechanical and physical characteristics of AMCs

Journal of Alloys and Compounds, 2019
Abstract In this study, aluminum matrix composites (AMCs) were developed using two different techniques, conventional stir casting and ultrasonic assisted stir casting. The drawbacks of the conventional stir casting technique were eliminated by employing an alternative process to produce the composite, wherein ultrasonic energy was introduced into ...

Non-conventional mold design for metal casting using 3D sand-printing

Journal of Manufacturing Processes, 2018
Abstract 3D Sand-Printing (3DSP) is a relatively new Additive Manufacturing (AM) technology that enables direct digital manufacturing (DDM) of complex sand molds and cores for sand casting applications. Ever-growing interest in this indirect hybrid metal AM process is attributed to its ability to rapidly produce tooling (i.e., cores and molds) for ...

Microstructure, Element Distribution, and Mechanical Property of Cu9Ni6Sn Alloys by Conventional Casting and Twin-Roll Casting

Metallurgical and Materials Transactions A, 2020
Cu9Ni6Sn alloys were prepared by conventional casting (CC) and twin-roll casting (TRC). The CC-processed specimens possessed dendritic structures, and Sn was distributed mainly in the inter-dendritic region and formed dendritic segregation. The TRC-processed specimens were composed of equiaxed grains and a heterogeneous structure.
