A History of Concussion Does Not Lead to an Increase in Ocular Near Point of Convergence

International Journal of Sports Medicine, 2018
AbstractOcular near point of convergence (NPC) has been shown to be sensitive to the effects of concussion and subconcussive impacts. To determine if NPC is also sensitive to a previous history of concussion, male contact-sport athletes either with (n=26) or without (n=16) a history of at least one previous concussion had their NPC assessed.

Integrative analysis of ocular complications in atherosclerosis unveils pathway convergence and crosstalk

Journal of Receptors and Signal Transduction, 2014
Atherosclerosis is a life-threatening disease and a major cause of mortalities worldwide. While many of the atherosclerotic sequelae are reflected as microvascular effects in the eye, the molecular mechanisms of their development is not yet known.

The ocular dominance of cortical neurons in cats developed with divergent and convergent squint

Vision Research, 1975
Abstract In five normal cats, 70.7% of the neurons recorded from the visual cortex responded to binocular stimulation; only 27.2% of the neurons in 12 cats raised with convergent squint and 63.6% of neurons in four cats with divergent squint displayed binocularity.

Convergent genetic pathways linking neuropsychiatric and ocular disorders in children

Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry
Background Clinical and epidemiological studies conducted in children have suggested a potential link between neuropsychiatric and ocular disorders. However, the existence and directionality of this relationship remain inconsistent, likely due to the complex interplay between genetic predisposition and ...

OCULAR CONVERGENCE: ITS RELATION TO BASAL METABOLISM AND ENDOCRINE DISEASE

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1931
In 1891, Mobius 1 pointed out that unilateral convergence is normal in exophthalmic goiter, but that in spite of muscular palsy or mechanical interference due to extreme protrusion of the eyeballs the act of binocular convergence is diminished. In all modern textbooks relating to general medicine, the endocrine glands, ophthalmology or neurology ...

RELATIVE SIZES OF OCULAR IMAGES OF THE TWO EYES IN ASYMMETRIC CONVERGENCE

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1939
Differences in size between the retinal images of the eyes may arise in asymmetric convergence because the object fixated will be at a different distance from the two eyes. 1 The magnitude of the difference will obviously increase with the nearness of the object and with the degree of the lateral turning of the eyes.
