VALID: a Validated Algorithm for Learning in Decentralized Networks with Possible Adversarial Presence [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
We introduce the paradigm of validated decentralized learning for undirected networks with heterogeneous data and possible adversarial infiltration. We require (a) convergence to a global empirical loss minimizer when adversaries are absent, and (b) either detection of adversarial presence of convergence to an admissible consensus irrespective of the ...

3D (Bio) Printing Combined Fiber Fabrication Methods for Tissue Engineering Applications: Possibilities and Limitations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Biofabrication aims at providing innovative technologies and tools for the fabrication of tissue‐like constructs for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine applications. By integrating multiple biofabrication technologies, such as 3D (bio) printing with fiber fabrication methods, it would be more realistic to reconstruct native tissue's ...

High Thermoelectric Performance in Low‐Cost Cu8SiSxSe6‐x Argyrodite

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study discovers the great potential of Cu8SiSxSe6‐x argyrodites as new, low‐cost, Te‐free thermoelectric materials. The proposed defect scheme suppresses the phase transition, enhances the weighted mobility and optimizes the grain boundary contacts.

Markov chain Monte Carlo Methods For Lattice Gaussian Sampling:Convergence Analysis and Enhancement [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Sampling from lattice Gaussian distribution has emerged as an important problem in coding, decoding and cryptography. In this paper, the classic Gibbs algorithm from Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) methods is demonstrated to be geometrically ergodic for lattice Gaussian sampling, which means the Markov chain arising from it converges exponentially fast

Omnidirectional Transmissive Acoustic Metasurfaces Based on Goldberg Polyhedra

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces omnidirectional acoustic metasurfaces capable of manipulating wavefronts in multiple arbitrary directions simultaneously. A full‐stack pipeline for design, optimization, and fabrication is presented to construct near‐spherical holograms based on Goldberg polyhedra.

Design and validation of a simulated multitasking environment for assessing the cognitive load on the infantry squad leader

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology
The increasing cognitive load on infantry squad leaders is a common challenge in modern military operations. As this can increase health and safety risks, there is a need to study the factors responsible for the increase in cognitive load.
