Survivin and Aurora Kinase A control cell fate decisions during mitosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aurora A interacts with survivin during mitosis and regulates its centromeric role. Loss of Aurora A activity mislocalises survivin, the CPC and BubR1, leading to disruption of the spindle checkpoint and triggering premature mitotic exit, which we refer to as ‘mitotic slippage’.

Investigation of the hydrochlorination of SiCL4 [PDF]

open access: yes
Reaction kinetic measurements on the hydrochlorination of SiCl4 and metallurgical grade (m.g.) silicon metal were made at a wide range of experimental variables.

The water-cryogen heat exchanger [PDF]

open access: yes, 1970
Heat exchanger, using water as heat medium, converts liquid hydrogen to gaseous hydrogen at a very high rate. Possible applications include treatment of liquified natural gas in cities to bring the gas on-line quickly, conversion of liquid oxygen and ...

Bright filter-free source of indistinguishable photon pairs

open access: yes, 2008
We demonstrate a high-brightness source of pairs of indistinguishable photons based on a type-II phase-matched doubly-resonant optical parametric oscillator operated far below threshold.

Liquid biopsy epigenetics: establishing a molecular profile based on cell‐free DNA

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) fragments in plasma from cancer patients carry epigenetic signatures reflecting their cells of origin. These epigenetic features include DNA methylation, nucleosome modifications, and variations in fragmentation. This review describes the biological properties of each feature and explores optimal strategies for harnessing cfDNA ...

Improving PARP inhibitor efficacy in bladder cancer without genetic BRCAness by combination with PLX51107

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Clinical trials on PARP inhibitors in urothelial carcinoma (UC) showed limited efficacy and a lack of predictive biomarkers. We propose SLFN5, SLFN11, and OAS1 as UC‐specific response predictors. We suggest Talazoparib as the better PARP inhibitor for UC than Olaparib.

The Conversion Rate of R&D into Technological Innovation in Family-Managed Firms Under Vulnerability [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
This paper primarily questions whether under vulnerability, decision-makers will be able to turn R&D into technological innovation more efficiently in order to increase the likelihood of firm survival (Palmer & Wiseman, 1999), using divergences between ...
