Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Large mass dilepton production from jet-dilepton conversion in the quark-gluon plasma

open access: yes, 2011
We calculate the production of large mass dileptons from the passage of jets passing through the quark-gluon plasma. Using the relativistic kinetic theory, we rigorously derive the production rate for the jet-dilepton conversion in the hot medium.

Evaluation of Early Urgent Versus Delayed Urgent Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy in the Treatment of Acute Cholecystitis

open access: yesJournal of Rawalpindi Medical College, 2013
Background: To compare the timing of laparoscopic cholecystectomy and injury to common bile duct (CBD) and frequency of failure (conversion rate from laparoscopic to open cholecystectomy) of early urgent versus delayed urgent laparoscopic cholecystectomy

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Research on the Decomposition Characteristics of Methane Hydrates Exploited by the NH4Cl/NaNO2 System

open access: yesEnergies
Considering the influence of the system conversion rate on hydrate decomposition kinetics and energy utilization during the decomposition process of pure methane hydrate in the NH4Cl/NaNO2 system (an in situ chemical heat generation system), this study ...

An intracellular transporter mitigates the CO2‐induced decline in iron content in Arabidopsis shoots

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study identifies a gene encoding a transmembrane protein, MIC, which contributes to the reduction of shoot Fe content observed in plants under elevated CO2. MIC is a putative Fe transporter localized to the Golgi and endosomal compartments. Its post‐translational regulation in roots may represent a potential target for improving plant nutrition ...

Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy: Complication and Conversion Rate

open access: yesKathmandu University Medical Journal, 2012
Background Laparoscopic cholecystectomy has become standard method for treating gallstone. However, different centres have reported different complications and conversion rate. The objective of this study was to evaluate complications and conversion of laparoscopic cholecystectomy into open cholecystectomy in Dhulikhel Hospital, Kathmandu University ...

Hematopoietic (stem) cells—The elixir of life?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The aging of HSCs (hematopoietic stem cells) and the blood system leads to the decline of other organs. Rejuvenating aged HSCs improves the function of the blood system, slowing the aging of the heart, kidney, brain, and liver, and the occurrence of age‐related diseases.

The influence of transport phenomena on the fluidized bed combustion of a single carbon particle [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
The burning rate and temperature of the carbon particles are known to affect the efficiency of a fluidized bed combustor, and also the emission levels of undesired noxious components. The main results of an extensive study on the fluidized bed combustion
