Implementing Convex Optimization in R: Two Econometric Examples [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Economists specify high-dimensional models to address heterogeneity in empirical studies with complex big data. Estimation of these models calls for optimization techniques to handle a large number of parameters. Convex problems can be effectively executed in modern statistical programming languages.

Micromachined Double‐Membrane Mechanically Tunable Metamaterial for Thermal Infrared Filtering

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, Volume 6, Issue 5, May 2025.
Herein, a mechanically tunable double‐layer plasmonic metamaterial leveraging the extraordinary optical transmission effect observed in subwavelength arrays of openings within thin metal layers is presented. The concept is experimentally validated by integrating the proposed metamaterial structure into an electrostatic parallel‐plate actuator to create

Immune-Commensal-Evolutionary Programming for solving non-smooth/non-convex economic dispatch problem

open access: yesEnergy Reports, 2020
This paper presents the development of a new hybrid optimization technique termed as Immune-Commensal-Evolutionary Programming (ICEP) and its implementation to solve non-smooth/ non-convex Economic Dispatch (ED) problem.

Analytical Description of Nanowires: Morphing Wurtzite Structure Cross Sections to Match Arbitrary Convex Shapes

open access: yesAdvanced Theory and Simulations, EarlyView.
Analytic morphing of wurtzite nanowire cross sections to arbitrary shapes yields numbers of nanowire atoms, of bonds between these and of nanowire interface bonds, plus the nanowire cross section area. The ratios of above variables help to interpret any spectroscopic nanowire data which depend on diameter and cross section shape, and can be applied to ...

A Meta‐Model for The Design of Soft Pneumatic Actuators Using Neural Networks and Finite Element Analysis

open access: yesAdvanced Theory and Simulations, EarlyView.
Data is generated from finite element simulations and an encoding using a Moore domain. The data is then used to train a meta‐model to predict the soft unit's deformation state depending on its chamber shape and properties as well as the surrounding environment.
