We present a new class of iteratively decodable turbo-like codes, called braided convolutional codes. Constructions and encoding procedures for tightly and sparsely braided codes are introduced. Sparsely braided codes exhibit good convergence behavior with iterative decoding, and a statistical analysis using Markov permutors shows that the free ...

Multidimensional Convolutional Codes
SIAM Journal on Discrete Mathematics, 2002The purpose of the paper is to find a suitable formulation for the definition of a multidimensional convolutional code from a symbolic dynamics perspective. Three possible formulations for the definition of a multidimensional convolutional code are discussed.

Convolutional Reed-Solomon Codes
Bell System Technical Journal, 1969We derive a new family of convolutional character-error-correcting codes which are a convolutional form of the Reed-Solomon block codes and as such have nonbinary symbols. We also derive a bound on the error correcting capabilities of these codes in which the error-correcting capability per constraint length grows approximately with the square root of ...

Recursive convolutional codes for time-invariant LDPC convolutional codes
2010 IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory, 2010In this paper we present an attractive alternative to construct time-invariant Low-Density Parity-Check Convolutional Codes (LDPC-CC) of coding rate-b/c from a simple recursive systematic convolutional encoder design. The proposed Recursive Convolutional Doubly-Orthogonal (RCDO) encoders have a corresponding Tanner graph for which the girth is ...

Signal Codes: Convolutional Lattice Codes
IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 2011The coded modulation scheme proposed in this paper has a simple construction: an integer sequence, representing the information, is convolved with a fixed, continuous-valued, finite impulse response (FIR) filter to generate the codeword - a lattice point. Due to power constraints, the code construction includes a shaping mechanism inspired by precoding

New Convolutional Codes--Part I
IEEE Transactions on Communications, 1975This paper is the last part of a three-part series on threshold decoding new convolutional codes. The first part of this paper concludes the list with new rate 1/2 codes. For these codes a characteristic equation, in terms of the number of correctable errors and code constraint length, is derived by least square approximations.
