Convergent Post‐Drought Recovery of Biomass and Functional Traits Under Constant and Periodic Warming in Slow‐ and Fast‐Growing Plants

In a 2‐year outdoor mesocosm experiment, slow‐ and fast‐growing grassland plants exhibit biomass‐trait decoupling 1 month after drought, particularly under warmed conditions. This decoupling disappears 4 months after drought by the end of the growing season.

Henry Trimen: Under‐appreciated pioneer in the typification of Linnaean plant names?

Abstract In 1887, Henry Trimen published a paper summarising the contents of the Hermann Herbarium, in what is now the Natural History Museum, London (BM), in terms of the plant names published by Linnaeus. Trimen referred to the Hermann specimens as types of Linnaeus's names.

Diverse soil seedbanks are resilient to reintroducing low‐intensity fire in a subtropical grassy woodland

Seedbanks in this grassy woodland provide a rich biodiversity reservoir which persisted after low‐intensity fire. Patterns of species replacement suggest that activities which diminish above‐ground plant diversity (such as overgrazing or conversion to forest) will impact biodiversity at larger spatial scales, while soil seedbanks are likely more robust

Natural variation in planting‐year climate explains variation in developing floristic composition of restored prairie

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 63, Issue 5, May 2026.
This study demonstrates planting‐year climate can predict the cover of frequently occurring species and major compositional groups in prairie developing from seed. Our results advance understanding of factors contributing to variable restoration outcomes, which is needed to achieve conservation goals.
