Cool and photocatalytic reddish-brown nanostructured Fe2O3@SiO2@TiO2 pigments
Materials Science and Engineering: B, 2020Abstract In the present study, the influence of the crystalline structure of Fe2O3(amorphous) @TiO2, α-Fe2O3@TiO2 and α-Fe2O3 @SiO2 @TiO2 nanocomposites on the NIR-reflectance and photocatalytic properties have been investigated. The nano-sized α-Fe2O3, SiO2 and TiO2 were prepared via co-precipitation, Stober and sol-gel methods, respectively.

Investigation of substituent effect on cool activity of perylene bisimide pigments
Journal of Coatings Technology and Research, 2018In this paper, some derivatives of perylene bisimides are successfully synthesized and characterized using FTIR, HNMR and XRD techniques. In addition, their UV–Vis–NIR reflectance spectra are investigated. Synthesized pigments were planned to have high structural similarities as all of them were N,N′-diphenyl-3,4,9,10-perylenedicarboximide derivatives.

Highly Reflective Nanostructured Titania Shell: A Sustainable Pigment for Cool Coatings
ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering, 2017Core–shell materials are designed to bring synergy of two materials. We describe a greener approach for fabrication of fly ash (FA)-based cool pigment having core–shell morphology, viz., FA as core and multilayers of nano-TiO2 as shell—introducing high reflectivity in the near infrared region.

A solar reflecting material for radiative cooling applications: ZnS pigmented polyethylene
Solar Energy Materials and Solar Cells, 1992Abstract Plastic foils containing nonabsorbing pigments can display a high reflectance of solar radiation combined with a high transmittance in the atmospheric window region in the thermal infrared. Such foils can be applied as selective covers enabling radiative cooling of an underlying material during the night and avoiding heating in direct ...

Radiative cooling during the day: simulations and experiments on pigmented polyethylene cover foils
Solar Energy Materials and Solar Cells, 1995Abstract Pigmented foils can promote radiative cooling of an underlying object if they reflect most of the solar light and transmit a part of the thermal radiation in the atmospheric window in the infrared. In this paper we describe the optimization of optical properties, and simulations of thermal performance during the day for pigmented ...

Synthesis of green cool pigments (CoxZn1-xO) for application in NIR radiation reflectance
Journal of Alloys and Compounds, 2019Abstract Reconciling green synthesis, sustainability and production of pigments for protection of solar radiation is a continuous topic of search for unique, versatile and environmental compatible methods. In this perspective, we present the green synthesis of inorganic pigments with reflective properties of infrared radiation in the NIR region ...

Synthesis of solar heat-reflective ZnTiO3 pigments with novel roof cooling effect
Ceramics International, 2019Abstract TiO2 and ZnO based white paints are used worldwide to keep the buildings cool by reflecting solar heat flux. However, the cooling effect and lifetime of such coatings are limited by their band gap and fair reflectivity. Herein, scale-up synthesis of pure hexagonal ZnTiO3 pigment with an optical band gap of 3.75 eV is developed.
