Sol-air heating and cooling degree-days

Solar Energy, 1984
Abstract A set of relationships is developed which allow the estimation of sol-air heating and cooling degree-days at any base temperature. The method makes use of existing relationships for hourly utilizability and degree-days, and the only input required is the monthly-average solar radiation and ambient temperature.

Characteristics of Heating Degree Days and Cooling Degree Days in Beijing During Last 50 Years

2011 Fourth International Joint Conference on Computational Sciences and Optimization, 2011
Degree-day is a quantitative index demonstrated to reflect the demand for energy to heat or cool houses and businesses. In this paper, the 18°C threshold temperature is chosen in Beijing. The homogenized mean daily temperature series during 1960-2009 in Beijing Weather Observatory is collected to calculate HDD and CDD.

Characterization of Climatological Cooling Degree-Days in the Caribbean Region

ANES/ASME 2006 Joint XXX, 2006
The climatology of the cooling degree day (CDD) indicator is analyzed in this paper for the Caribbean region. The CDD is an indicator of energy required to reach human comfort levels, and directly related to energy demands. The National Center for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) reanalysis data for surface air temperatures was used as main data source ...

Using modified multiple heating-degree-day (HDD) and cooling-degree-day (CDD) indices to estimate building heating and cooling loads

Energy and Buildings, 2020
Abstract There is substantial confusion in the literature concerning the appropriate reference temperatures to use for the computation of heating-degree-day (HDD) and cooling-degree-day (CDD) indices, with the former ranging from 10 to 20 °C and the latter ranging from 10 to 28 °C.

Statistical formula to estimate heating or cooling degree-days

Agricultural Meteorology, 1979
Abstract An expression to estimate heating or cooling degree-days accumulated on the average above or below a given temperature and for a given period of time is developed according to a statistical criterion. If the mean daily temperatures for a given month are assurned to be normally distributed the derived formula is only a function of the ...

Variations and Trends in Turkish Seasonal Heating and Cooling Degree-Days

Climatic Change, 2001
The potential effect of climate change on energy demand is important especially for the developing and non-oil-producing countries. Cooling and heating degree-day (CDD and HDD) concepts are among the most significant meteorological variables related to residential energy consumption.

ANALYSIS OF DEGREE DAY AND COOLING ENERGY DEMAND IN EDUCATIONAL BUILDINGS

Environmental Engineering and Management Journal, 2014
In European countries, because of low fossil fuel reserves, energy saving is one of the primary research goals in every energy consumer sector. In the last several years, several directives were elaborated by the European Commission to enhance the energy efficiency in buildings and increase the use of renewable energy sources.

Determining base temperature for heating and cooling degree-days for India

Journal of Building Engineering, 2018
Abstract Internationally, the cooling degree-days (CDD) and heating degree-days (HDD) have been commonly used as indicators of cooling and heating load occurring due to outdoor temperature. These indicators have also applied for classification of climate zones as referred in ASHRAE Standard 169-2013. As of now various base temperatures has been

Heating/cooling degree days and building energy consumption in Pakistan

2015 Power Generation System and Renewable Energy Technologies (PGSRET), 2015
Pakistan suffers a continuous energy crisis and needs all out efforts to overcome this problem. The use of locally available renewable energy and energy conservation offers a viable solution to the energy crisis. As Pakistan consumes 50% of its primary energy in the building sector, and therefore, it offers a huge potential for energy saving. The study

Degree‐Days for Predicting Smooth Crabgrass Emergence in Cool‐Season Turfgrasses

Crop Science, 1996
Successful smooth crabgrass [Digitaria ischaemum (Schreber) Schreber ex Muhlenb.] management in turfgrass with herbicides depends on accurate application timing. Little information exists, however, regarding smooth crabgrass seed germination, and there are no reliable methods for predicting crabgrass emergence.
