Local sensitivity analysis of heating degree day and cooling degree day temperature derivative prices

open access: yesQuantitative Finance
We study the local sensitivity of heating degree day (HDD) and cooling degree day (CDD) temperature futures and option prices with respect to perturbations in the deseasonalized temperature or in one of its derivatives up to a certain order determined by the continuous-time autoregressive process modelling the deseasonalized temperature in the HDD and ...

Spatial distributions of heating, cooling, and industrial degree-days in Turkey

open access: yesTheoretical and Applied Climatology, 2007
The degree-day method is commonly used to estimate energy consumption for heating and cooling in residential, commercial and industrial buildings, as well as in greenhouses, livestock facilities, storage facilities and warehouses. This article presents monthly and yearly averages and spatial distributions of heating, cooling, and industrial degree-days

Handbook of Establishing and Maintaining Oxygen‐Free Atmospheres

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a practical framework for creating oxygen‐free atmospheres at ambient pressure using silane‐doped inert gases. The results show that ultra‐low oxygen levels and strongly reduced water content can be achieved through controlled silane dosing, drying systems, and sensor monitoring.

Modeling GRB 050904: Autopsy of a Massive Stellar Explosion at z=6.29 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
GRB 050904 at redshift z=6.29, discovered and observed by Swift and with spectroscopic redshift from the Subaru telescope, is the first gamma-ray burst to be identified from beyond the epoch of reionization. Since the progenitors of long gamma-ray bursts

Future Scenarios for Heating and Cooling Degree Days in Finland

open access: yesIlmastokatsaus
The ongoing climate change will lead to decreases in heating energy demand during the cold season but, on the other hand, to an increasing demand for cooling energy in summer. Projected changes vary depending on the climate change scenario but also regionally in Finland.

Al–Cu Composite Casting of Laser‐Deoxidized Copper: Bonding, Interfacial Chemistry, and Thermal Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser‐based oxide removal of Cu inserts in oxygen‐free conditions and examines long‐term oxidation kinetics and surface chemistry under different atmospheres via X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Al–Cu compound casting with differently oxidized surfaces is performed, and intermetallic phase formation, morphology, and thermal ...

Assessment the Effects of Climate Change on the Degree of Heating and Cooling Days of Iran [PDF]

open access: yesجغرافیا و پایداری محیط, 2017
Energy, as one of the most important environmental and economic sustainable development indices, is affected by the conditions of climate change. In addition, they are considered as the main factors of increase or decrease of fuel consumption and energy ...

Evaluating the Efficiency of Crop Index Insurance Products [PDF]

open access: yes
Index crop insurance products can eliminate the asymmetric information problem inherent in farm-level multiple peril crop insurance. Purchasers of index insurance products are, however, exposed to basis risk.

Large-Deviation Functions for Nonlinear Functionals of a Gaussian Stationary Markov Process

open access: yes, 2004
We introduce a general method, based on a mapping onto quantum mechanics, for investigating the large-T limit of the distribution P(r,T) of the nonlinear functional r[V] = (1/T)\int_0^T dT' V[X(T')], where V(X) is an arbitrary function of the stationary ...

Interaction of Ladle Slag With Varying SiO2 Content and Recyclate‐Based MgO–C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Ladle slags (CaO/Al2O3 = 1) with 1–20 wt% SiO2 were investigated in contact with industrial MgO–C refractories fabricated from fresh magnesia and 50 wt% recyclate. The sessile drop method at 1600°C reveals intensive gas formation, delayed slag infiltration in recyclate‐based samples, and, under high‐SiO2 slag, formation of a dense MgAl2O4‐rich ...
