Abstract Body temperature is tightly regulated within a few tenths of a degree Celsius by the hypothalamus; deviations of a few degrees can have a profound impact on cellular metabolism. The human body maintains an average core temperature of 36.5–37.5°C via signals to the hypothalamus.
