Thermo-Optical Tuning of Whispering Gallery Modes in Microspheres around the 85Rb Cooling Transition
Frontiers in Optics 2009/Laser Science XXV/Fall 2009 OSA Optics & Photonics Technical Digest, 2009We present a method for tuning whispering gallery modes in microspheres and demonstrate tuning to the cooling transition of85Rb. The tuning method can be used in UHV and is of interest for cavity-QED experiments.

The Effects of the Cooling Gallery Position on the Piston Temperature Field and Thermal Stress
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2010The effects of cooling gallery position on the piston temperature field and thermal stress are studied. A finite element model of 1015 engine piston is developed using Pro/E software and finite element analyses are achieved through ANSYS code. Numerical simulations are performed to find the temperature and thermal stress change rules with regard to the

Numerical Heat Transfer, Part A: Applications, 2009
An internal combustion engine oil gallery cooling model was developed, which can predict average heat transfer coefficients by considering the cocktail shaker effect due to the reciprocal motion of the engine piston. The model prediction showed good agreement with available experimental data.

Numerical Heat Transfer, Part A: Applications, 2013
Copper and diamond nanoparticles with diameters of 50 nm are added into conventional engine oil, respectively, to preparetwo new types of nanofluids, which are further used as the heat transfer medium for the piston cooling gallery. Detailed oil flow and heat transfer processes of copper-oil and diamond-oil nanofluids, with the volume fractions of 1 ...

Pistons for heavy duty diesel applications endure high thermal loads and therefore result in reduced durability. Pistons for such heavy duty applications are generally designed with an internal oil gallery — called the piston cooling gallery (PCG) — where the intent is to reduce the piston crown temperatures through forced convection cooling and ...

Light coupled from a tapered optical fiber is used to excite the morphology dependent whispering gallery mode (WGM) resonances of a silica microsphere-cantilever. Using the optomechanical transduction from the WGM supported by the microsphere1, we can simultaneously detect the thermal Brownian motion of both the microsphere-cantilever and the tapered ...

A numerical simulation model has been developed for the transient flow and heat transfer problems of oil inside the piston gallery using a coupled VOF/Level Set method. Detailed cooling processes of Cu-oil nanofluids, with the nanoparticle size of 50 nm and the volume fractions of 1, 2 and 3 %, have been investigated.
