Traditional thermoelectric materials often face a trade-off between efficient power generation (high ZT) and cooling performance. Here, we explore the potential of achieving simultaneous thermoelectric power generation and cooling capability in the ...

Kramers barrier crossing as a cooling machine
The achievement of local cooling is a prominent goal in the design of functional transport nanojunctions. One generic mechanism for local cooling is driving a system through a local uphill potential step.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Cavity cooling of a levitated nanosphere by coherent scattering
We report three-dimensional cooling of a levitated nanoparticle inside an optical cavity. The cooling mechanism is provided by cavity-enhanced coherent scattering off an optical tweezer.

Performing coolness: smoking refusal and adolescent identities [PDF]
The implications of smoking refusal for personal identity style were studied through conversations in six small focus groups or dyads of 13- and 14-year-old non-smokers from an urban New Zealand secondary school. The approach to analyzing their talk was informed by notions of 'performativity' and 'social space' to focus on the connections between ...

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

The Reduction Design for Structure Borne Noise of Electronic Cabinet on Shipboard Considering Cooling Performance [PDF]
An air cooling system using an axial flow fan is generally applied in an electronic cabinet on shipboard. However, cases that apply a water cooling system or a mixture of water cooling and an air cooling system are gradually increased by applying the ...
