A new thermodynamic expression for Gibbs free energy difference ΔG between the under-cooled liquid and on microstructure of near-eutectic Al-13wt%Si alloy [PDF]

open access: yesChina Foundry, 2008
Under cooling rates of 2 ℃/s and 10 ℃/s, the influences of B content on the microstructure of near eutectic Al-13.0wt%Si alloy have been investigated.

Abundances of volatile-bearing phases in carbonaceous chondrites and cooling rates of meteorites based on cation ordering of orthopyroxenes [PDF]

open access: yes
Results of preliminary calculations of volatile abundances in carbonaceous chondrites are discussed. The method (Ganguly 1982) was refined for the calculation of cooling rate on the basis of cation ordering in orthopyroxenes, and it was applied to the ...

Influence of Heat Treatment on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties at Elevated Temperatures of Nonweldable Ni‐Based Alloy Printed by Fused Filament Fabrication

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The fused filament‐fabricated MAR‐M247 alloy without hot isostatic pressing shows the lowest porosity of 4%. Heat treatment at 1220 °C produces coarse precipitates and carbides. Specimens heat‐treated at 1220 °C exhibit higher tensile strength (683 MPa) and elongation (10%) at room temperature.

Investigation of Iron‐Aluminide‐Like Phase Composition in Complex Concentrated Fe32Cu12Ni11Ti16Al29 Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work reveals the phase composition and quantitative morphology analysis of precipitation‐hardened Fe32Cu12Ni11Ti16Al29 complex‐concentrated alloy. The precipitates are shown to have a high coherency. Morphology transition between sphere, cuboidal, and elongated morphology is observed. Finally, the overaging behavior is captured using microhardness.

Fission tracks and cooling rates of meteorites

open access: yesJournal of Earth System Science, 1981
Recent work on fission track studies of meteorite samples to obtain cooling rates of metetorite parent bodies is reviewed. The cooling rates of chondrites are in excess of 1oK/106 yr. Fission track studies of phosphate grains in mesosiderites do not support the extremely slow cooling rates of 0°1oK/108 yr for these meteorites, inferred from ...
