Optical refrigeration with coupled quantum wells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Refrigeration of a solid-state system with light has potential applications for cooling small-scale electronics and photonics. We show theoretically that two coupled semiconductor quantum wells are efficient cooling media for optical refrigeration ...

Optimizing solar cooling systems

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering, 2020
This papers discusses solar powered absorption cycle performance by simulating different component temperatures. The main components that were investigated included a generator, condenser, absorber and evaporator. The COP was optimized against the generator temperature while varying the other temperatures one at a time.

Humidification–Cooling System in Semi-Insulated Box-Type Cowsheds Prevent the Loss of Milk Productivity Due to Thermal Stress

open access: yesAgronomy, 2022
Heat stress is becoming an increasingly important problem in Lithuanian cowsheds. Microclimate formation systems were evaluated in the seven most popular cowsheds in Lithuania, with different wall and roof constructions, insulation, ventilation intensity

Heating and cooling system [PDF]

open access: yes, 1982
A heating and cooling apparatus capable of cyclic heating and cooling of a test specimen undergoing fatigue testing is discussed. Cryogenic fluid is passed through a block clamped to the speciment to cool the block and the specimen.

Boost converter fed high performance BLDC drive for solar PV array powered air cooling system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
This paper proposes the utilization of a DC-DC boost converter as a mediator between a Solar Photovoltaic (SPV) array and the Voltage Source Inverters (VSI) in an SPV array powered air cooling system to attain maximum efficiency.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Optomechanical cooling in a continuous system

open access: yes, 2018
Radiation-pressure-induced optomechanical coupling permits exquisite control of micro- and mesoscopic mechanical oscillators. This ability to manipulate and even damp mechanical motion with light---a process known as dynamical backaction cooling---has ...

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Absolute Dynamical Limit to Cooling Weakly-Coupled Quantum Systems

open access: yes, 2012
Cooling of a quantum system is limited by the size of the control forces that are available (the "speed" of control). We consider the most general cooling process, albeit restricted to the regime in which the thermodynamics of the system is preserved ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.
