The Effects of Nutrient Additions on Kokanee in Dworshak Reservoir, Idaho

open access: yesFisheries Management and Ecology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We investigated the effects of whole reservoir nitrogen (N) addition on kokanee growth in Dworshak Reservoir, Idaho. We hypothesized that N addition would improve the growth of kokanee (Oncorhynchus nerka) at a given level of abundance by increasing the availability of Daphnia, an important food source.

Decadal Rapid Change in Energetic Carrying Capacity for Juvenile Chum Salmon in the Sanriku Coast

open access: yesFisheries Oceanography, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Adult returns to coastal rivers in Sanriku, located near the southernmost area of chum salmon distribution, have declined since 2010. Climate‐induced fluctuations in juvenile prey availability may affect growth and survival, which are linked to adult returns.

Extreme Temperatures Reduce Copepod Performance and Change the Relative Abundance of Internal Microbiota

open access: yesEcology and Evolution
Copepods are one of the most abundant invertebrate groups in the seas and oceans and are a significant food source for marine animals. Copepods are also particularly sensitive to elevated temperatures.

Effect of zooplankton-mediated trophic cascades on marine microbial food web components (bacteria, nanoflagellates, ciliates) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
To examine the grazing effects of copepod-dominated mesozooplankton on heterotrophic microbial communities, four mesocosm experiments using gradients of zooplankton abundance were carried out at a coastal marine site.

Vertical Habitat Use by Japanese Jack Mackerel Trachurus japonicus Inferred From a Biologging Study in Tokyo Bay

open access: yesFisheries Oceanography, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The movement ecology of Trachurus japonicus in the adult stage remains poorly understood because observing their underwater behavior over long periods is challenging. This study aimed to examine vertical habitat use by T. japonicus using electronic tags. Ninety fish were tagged and released in November 2022 in Tokyo Bay, Japan.

Stage‐Specific Indicators of Northern Yellowtail Rockfish (Sebastes flavidus) Recruitment in the California Current Ecosystem

open access: yesFisheries Oceanography, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Oceanographic and ecological conditions can be used to inform forecasts and decision‐making for marine resources, but the dominant drivers of recruitment variability remain poorly understood for many fish stocks. We developed a conceptual life‐history model of the oceanographic and ecological variables that influence the recruitment of ...
