Selective Recovery of Critical Minerals from Simulated Electronic Wastes Via Reaction-Diffusion Coupling. [PDF]

open access: yesChemSusChem
We achieve the facile separation of Fe, Dy, and Nd from model solutions of electronic waste using reaction‐diffusion coupling. Using a suite of X‐ray imaging, characterization, atomistic, and continuum simulations, we develop a predictive model for the distribution of the components in the reaction medium.

Operando Characterization of Uranium Dendrite Growth in High-Temperature Molten Salt Electrochemistry by Synchrotron X-Ray Tomography and Diffraction. [PDF]

open access: yesAdv Sci (Weinh)
An operando methodology combining synchrotron X‐ray micro‐computed tomography (SR‐µCT) and high‐energy X‐ray diffraction (HEXRD) investigates uranium dendrite electrodeposition in LiCl‐KCl‐UCl3 molten salt. This enabled in‐situ visualization of dendrite growth and ion diffusion dynamics.

Forecasting Copper Electrorefining Cathode Rejection by Means of Recurrent Neural Networks With Attention Mechanism

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2021
Electrolytic refining is the last step of pyrometallurgical copper production. Here, smelted copper is converted into high-quality cathodes through electrolysis.

Statistical analysis of the distribution of impurities during copper electrorefining

open access: yesIzvestiya Vuzov. Tsvetnaya Metallurgiya (Universities' Proceedings Non-Ferrous Metallurgy), 2021
Electrolytic copper refining makes it possible to obtain high purity metal, so the analysis of the main ways of impurity transition into electrolysis products is an actual problem. If it is solved, the process can be controlled when changing the composition of raw materials and, as a result, the content of impurities in the anodes.

Effect of Thiourea on Copper Electrorefining

open access: yesJournal of MMIJ, 2009
The effect of thiourea on copper electrodeposition has been investigated by measuring the cathodic polarization curves for aqueous H2SO4-CuSO4 solutions and observing the surface morphology of deposited Cu. The cathode potential for Cu deposition was depolarized by the addition of thiourea less than 0.1 mmol/L, whereas it was significantly polarized ...

Influence of Electrolyte Impurities from E-Waste Electrorefining on Copper Extraction Recovery

open access: yesMetals, 2021
In order to reflect possible issues in future sole e-waste processing, an electrolyte of complex chemical composition reflecting system of sole e-waste processing was obtained by following a specially designed pyro-electrometallurgical method.

Removal of Sb Impurities in Copper Electrolyte and Evaluation of As and Fe Species in an Electrorefining Plant

open access: yesMetals, 2021
Antimony and arsenic concentrations and their oxidation states (Sb(III), Sb(V), As(III) and As(V)) in copper electrorefining electrolyte can affect copper cathode quality through the formation of floating slimes.
