Development of a Species-Specific Coproantigen ELISA for Human Taenia solium Taeniasis [PDF]

open access: yesThe American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 2009
Taenia solium causes human neurocysticercosis and is endemic in underdeveloped countries where backyard pig keeping is common. Microscopic fecal diagnostic methods for human T. solium taeniasis are not very sensitive, and Taenia saginata and Taenia solium eggs are indistinguishable under the light microscope.

Immunoassay for detection of Dipylidium caninum coproantigen in dogs and cats. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Vet Diagn Invest, 2023
Dipylidium caninum infections in dogs and cats are underestimated because of a lack of proglottid observations and poor recovery of parasite elements by centrifugal flotation. We developed an immunoassay that employs a pair of monoclonal antibodies to capture D. caninum–specific coproantigen in fecal extracts from dogs and cats.

Assessment of Human Taeniasis and Other Intestinal Parasites in Narok County, Kenya. [PDF]

open access: yesVet Med Int
Data are sparse on the epidemiological picture of Taenia saginata taeniasis in Kenya. Infections are underreported, and their persistence nonetheless negatively impacts the beef industry. Populations vulnerable to taeniasis in the developing world are commonly burdened with other intestinal parasites, ubiquitous in unsanitary environments.

The current status and outlook for insecticide, acaricide and anthelmintic resistances across the Australian ruminant livestock industries: assessing the threat these resistances pose to the livestock sector

open access: yesAustralian Veterinary Journal, Volume 101, Issue 9, Page 321-333, September 2023., 2023
The Australian ruminant livestock industries are faced with the need to control parasitic infectious diseases that can seriously impact the health of animals. However, increasing levels of resistance to insecticides, anthelmintics and acaricides are substantially reducing the ability to control some of these parasites.

Taenia solium: Socioeconomic changes and prevalence evolution in four endemic communities in northwestern Mexico

open access: yesZoonoses and Public Health, Volume 70, Issue 5, Page 434-444, August 2023., 2023
Abstract In Mexico, for the past 30 years, a continuous decrease in the incidence of clinical taeniosis/cysticercosis has been documented. This work aimed to determine the influence of improvement in socioeconomic conditions on the prevalence of Taenia solium in four endemic communities in northwestern Mexico.
