Synthesis, Functionalization, and Reactivity of Vinyl Sulfondiimidamides

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Combining unsymmetrical sulfurdiimide reagents (R‐NSN‐R1) and Grignard reagents, followed by oxidative amination, delivers a series of vinyl sulfondiimidamides. Reactivity with cysteine and lysine derivatives is shown, and the cysteine reactivity is mapped in detail. Variation of the two imidic N‐substituents can be used to tune reactivity of these new

Thermal Stress Interacts With Surgeonfish Feces to Increase Coral Susceptibility to Dysbiosis and Reduce Tissue Regeneration

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2021
Dysbiosis of coral microbiomes results from various biotic and environmental stressors, including interactions with important reef fishes which may act as vectors of opportunistic microbes via deposition of fecal material.

Nature‐Inspired Surface Modification Strategy Reverses the Autophagic Flux Impairment of Mitochondrial Transplantation for Attenuating Ischemic Strokes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The functionalized starch modifies the mitochondrial surface and encapsulates resveratrol into the cavity of helices, facilitating a novel mitochondrial transplantation platform (MLSR). Upon internalization in recipient cells, MLSR triggers mitophagy and maintains positive autophagic flux through RIP1/RIP3 pathway inhibition.

Analysis of tropical cyclone driven rainfall in the Arabian Sea and its coastal regions for the past two decades (2000–2020)

open access: yesDiscover Oceans
This study examines the contribution of tropical cyclones (TCs) originated in the Arabian Sea (AS) to the seasonal and annual rainfall in AS and India land regions in the period 2000–2020.

3D Large‐Scale Subwavelength‐Resolution Sound Sheet Tomography Based on an Active and Programmable Circular Meta‐Array

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A programmable 2048‐element circular ultrasound array combined with a compact acoustic lens produces a thin “sound sheet” over a large field of view, and records echoes with wide angular diversity across the ring aperture. Coherence‐enhanced beamforming converts full‐matrix data into high‐contrast tomographic slices, delivering near‐diffraction‐limited

Antibiotics Alter Pocillopora Coral-Symbiodiniaceae-Bacteria Interactions and Cause Microbial Dysbiosis During Heat Stress

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2022
Symbioses between eukaryotes and their associated microbial communities are fundamental processes that affect organisms’ ecology and evolution. A unique example of this is reef-building corals that maintain symbiotic associations with dinoflagellate ...

Corals and Reef‐Dwelling Fish Regulate Carbon Storage and Cycling Processes in Coral Reef Ecosystems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Coral reefs are biodiversity hotspots, yet their role in carbon storage and cycling remains poorly understood. Using field surveys and modeling in the South China Sea, we reveal the overlooked potential of carbon storage in reef ecosystems and how reef fish, corals, and surface sediment jointly shape reef carbon reservoirs.

Coral Disease Time Series Highlight Size-Dependent Risk and Other Drivers of White Syndrome in a Multi-Species Model

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2020
Coral diseases contribute to the decline of reef communities, but factors that lead to disease are difficult to detect. In the present study, we develop a multi-species model of colony-scale risk for the class of coral diseases referred to as White ...
