Assessment of ecosystem status in Mozambique and implications for environmental planning

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, EarlyView.
We assess Mozambique's terrestrial ecosystems using the IUCN Red List of Ecosystems framework, showing that more than half of Mozambique's ecosystems are threatened, with impacts primarily concentrated in temperate subhumid grasslands and pyric tussock savannas.

Assessing the Effectiveness of 3D-Printed Ceramic Structures for Coral Restoration: Growth, Survivorship, and Biodiversity Using Visual Surveys and eDNA

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
Coral reef degradation has spurred the development of artificial structures to mitigate losses in coral cover. These structures serve as substrates for coral transplantation, with the expectation that growing corals will attract reef-associated taxa ...

Large-scale coral reef restoration could assist natural recovery in Seychelles, Indian Ocean

open access: yesNature Conservation, 2016
The aim of ecological restoration is to establish self-sustaining and resilient systems. In coral reef restoration, transplantation of nursery-grown corals is seen as a potential method to mitigate reef degradation and enhance recovery.

Integrating ecological feedbacks across scales and levels of organization

open access: yesEcography, EarlyView.
In ecosystems, species interact in various ways with other species, and with their local environment. In addition, ecosystems are coupled in space by diverse types of flows. From these links connecting different ecological entities can emerge circular pathways of indirect effects: feedback loops.

A restoration genetics guide for coral reef conservation [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, 2008
AbstractWorldwide degradation of coral reef communities has prompted a surge in restoration efforts. They proceed largely without considering genetic factors because traditionally, coral populations have been regarded as open over large areas with little potential for local adaptation.

Why partner? Harnessing value from collaborative sustainable business models to restore coral reefs at scale.

open access: yesPLoS ONE
Tropical coral reefs provide a wide range of ecosystem services that benefit millions worldwide. However, the current scale of coral reef restoration is a long way from matching the extent needed to protect coral reefs globally, and this implementation ...

The Active Reef Restoration Toolbox is a Vehicle for Coral Resilience and Adaptation in a Changing World

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2019
The accelerating marks of climate change on coral-reef ecosystems, combined with the recognition that traditional management measures are not efficient enough to cope with climate change tempo and human footprints, have raised a need for new approaches ...
