Study on the horizontal bearing characteristics of pile foundation in coral sand

open access: yes, 2021
This paper presents the horizontal bearing characteristics of piles in coral sand and silica sand from comparative experimental studies. A total of 6 model piles with different diameters are tested.

Stress-strain model and deformation parameters of K0-consolidated coral sand

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao, 2023
The stress path followed by soil consolidation in the hydraulic filling site where the coral sand is used as the filling materials is characterized by K0-consolidation. In order to investigate the stress-strain behaviors of the K0-consolidated coral sand,

Botanic and heritage gardens as living laboratories in the age of the polycrisis

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Societal Impact Statement Cities face intertwined crises of climate, biodiversity loss and social disconnection. We show how botanic and heritage gardens can help address these challenges as living laboratories to generate place‐based evidence and public engagement.

Optimization of mix proportion of basic magnesium sulfate cement-based high-strength coral concrete

open access: yes, 2022
The diverse morphology of coarse coral aggregate and its complex pore structure cause uncertainty in the performance of coral aggregate concrete (CAC).

Performance of a Subgrade-Embankment-Seawall System Reinforced by Drainage PCC Piles and Ordinary Piles Subjected to Lateral Spreading

open access: yesGeofluids, 2023
Coral sand is widely distributed in coastal areas and used as a soil foundation in an increasing number of projects. Historical records show that the liquefaction and lateral spreading of coral sand foundations occurred many times during earthquakes ...

Automated object detection based on YOLOv11 for monitoring benthic population dynamics: A new approach combining photogrammetry and open‐source GIS tools applied to sea cucumbers

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
This research established a new object detection model based on YOLOv11 to recognise benthic organisms, specifically sea cucumbers, by utilising high‐resolution photogrammetric‐based orthomosaics acquired along infralittoral Mediterranean Sea beds. The model demonstrated impressive performance metrics and, when combined with the Deepness plugin for the

Deep learning‐based super‐resolution reconstruction and improved YOLOv9 for efficient benthos detection: a case study at Lake Hamana, Japan

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
This study presents a UAV‐based framework that integrates deep learning‐based super‐resolution reconstruction and an enhanced YOLO detector to improve centimetre‐scale benthic organism monitoring. Using hermit crabs in Lake Hamana, a coastal lagoon in Japan, as a case study, the method substantially enhanced small‐object detection performance ...

Native habitat affinities predict fish invasions with post‐invasion habitat shifts

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
Initial invasion success is gated by native pre‐adaptations, but post‐invasion establishment is characterized by habitat shifts. We demonstrate that forecasting risk based solely on native niches severely underestimates future ecological impacts, and we provide an empirically validated watchlist of future invaders.
