In Silico Molecular Studies of Antiophidic Properties of the Amazonian Tree Cordia nodosa Lam. [PDF]

open access: yesMolecules, 2019
We carried out surveys on the use of Cordia nodosa Lam. in the jungles of Bobonaza (Ecuador). We documented this knowledge to prevent its loss under the Framework of the Convention on Biological Diversity and the Nagoya Protocol. We conducted bibliographic research and identified quercetrin as a significant bioactive molecule.

Mutualistic interactions between ants and fungi: A review [PDF]

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 13, Issue 8, August 2023., 2023
We review the mutualistic interactions between ants and fungi. Neotropical myrmicine Attina cultivate Basidiomycota for food, the same being true for certain “plant‐ants” associated with myrmecophytes that also feed on Ascomycota fungi. Otherwise, these Ascomycota have antibacterial properties.

Ant Diversity and Stratification in an Amazonian Rainforest [PDF]

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 12, December 2025.
We examined the three strata of an Amazonian rainforest (e.g., the ground and leaf litter, understory and canopy) using only two sampling techniques and analyzed their functional traits. We identified 494 ant species from 10 subfamilies and 77 genera over ≈3.0 ha, showing that they are species rich and abundant, particularly at ground level.

Foraging by predatory ants: A review [PDF]

open access: yesInsect Science, Volume 32, Issue 4, Page 1096-1118, August 2025.
This review focuses on ecological and behavioral characteristics of foraging in ants showing the wide diversity of cases. Most ants can feed on sugary substances, but some ground‐nesting species are strict predators. Except army ants during the nomadic phase, they are central‐place foragers that can recruit nestmates when necessary. They prey mostly on

Pest categorisation of Morganella longispina [PDF]

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 23, Issue 1, January 2025.
Abstract Following the commodity risk assessment of Acer palmatum plants grafted on Acer davidii from China, in which Morganella longispina (Hemiptera: Diaspididae) was identified as a pest of possible concern, the European Commission requested the EFSA Panel on Plant Health to conduct a pest categorisation of M.

Formation and structure of food bodies in Cordia nodosa (Boraginaceae)

open access: yesComptes Rendus - Biologies, 2005
Cordia nodosa Lamark (Boraginaceae) is a myrmecophyte (i.e., plants housing ants in hollow structures) that provisions associated ants with food bodies (FBs) produced 24 h a day. Distributed over all the young parts of the plants, they induce ants to forage continually and so to protect the plants.

Relação entre diferentes espécies de formigas e a mirmecófita Cordia nodosa Lamarck (Boraginaceae) em áreas de mata ripária na Amazônia mato-grossense Relationship among different plant-ants and its myrmecophite host Cordia nodosa Lamarck (Boraginaceae) in a riparian Mato Grosso Amazonian forest [PDF]

open access: yesActa Amazonica, 2011

open access: yesBoletim do Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi - Ciências Naturais, 2014
As angiospermas apresentam estratégias que promovem o fluxo gênico, como a heterostilia, com diferenças na altura do estilete e estames entre indivíduos. Variações nos sistemas distílicos são descritos e causam discussão, pois envolvem questões evolutivas.
