Metal-Ceramic Interfacial Reactions: The Copper-Cordierite and Titanium-Cordierite Systems.

MRS Proceedings, 1988
AbstractInterfacial reactions between either copper or titanium and cordierite-based (2MgO.2Al2O3.5SiO2) ceramic substrates are probed using X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS). Room temperature reactions are found to be strongly dependent on interfacial chemistry; while copper reacts weakly with the cordierite surface, titanium strongly reduces the

Aqueous sol-gel synthesis of cordierite and cordierite-zirconia composite powders

Journal of Materials Science, 1995
Pure cordierite and cordierite-zirconia (5 and 15 mol.%) are prepared by an aqueous sol-gel technique starting from aqueous solutions of magnesium formate, aluminium formate, zirconium formate and tetraethoxysilane. The gels are dried and calcined at different temperatures ranging from 600 to 1300 °C.

Cordierite-indialite relations

American Journal of Science, 1957
Presents a revised structural classification of minerals of the cordierite group on the basis of optical and x-ray studies of natural and artificial material which have shown the existence of a number of structurally intermediate states between indialite (hexagonal) and common cordierite (pseudohexagonal).

Sic-Reinforced Cordierite Composites Formed by Viscous Sintering of Cordierite Powders

MRS Proceedings, 1991
ABSTRACTOne approach for improving mechanical properties of ceramics is to add reinforcing whiskers; however, addition of whiskers often inhibits densification. Formation of SiCcordierite composites by pressureless sintering was studied. The cordierite composites densified by viscous sintering; after densification the amorphous matrix then crystallized.

Energetics of hydration of cordierite and water barometry in cordierite-granulites

Contributions to Mineralogy and Petrology, 1985
The Gibbs free energy and volume changes attendant upon hydration of cordierites in the system magnesian cordierite-water have been extracted from the published high pressure experimental data at \(P_{{\text{H}}_{\text{2}} {\text{O}}} \)=Ptotal, assuming an ideal one site model for H2O in cordierite.

27Al and 29Si MAS NMR investigations of cordierite glass, μ- and α-cordierite

Solid State Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, 1997
27Al and 29Si Magic-Angle Spinning NMR results are reported for conventionally prepared glass of cordierite stoichiometry (2MgO.2Al2O3.5SiO2), the metastable high-quartz solid solution (mu-cordierite) and the high-temperature polymorph of cordierite (alpha-cordierite).

BeO in pegmatitic cordierite

Mineralogical Magazine and Journal of the Mineralogical Society, 1966
SummarySeveral cordierites from pegmatites were found by emission spectroscopy to contain as much as 0·7 wt. % of BeO. Structural crystallographic considerations suggest that the beryl molecule, Be3Al2Si6O18, may have appreciable solubility in the structure of cordierite.
