Tectonics
Abstract The origin of the contact between Cenozoic rocks of the Western Principal Cordillera (WPC) and Mesozoic rocks of the Eastern Principal Cordillera (EPC) in the Chilean Andes at 33°–34°S has been debated for several years. Most authors interpret this boundary as a regional‐scale inverted fault that, during the early Miocene ...

AbstractWe assess the role of inherited structures on the Meso‐Cenozoic tectonic evolution of the main Andean Cordillera in central Chile (33°30′S‐34°S). Based on extensive field mapping, U‐Pb geochronology and palinspastic restorations along the Yeso and Volcán river valleys, we propose a tectono‐stratigraphic model for the evolution of a hybrid fold ...

Abstract Regional mapping (1:50,000) and U-Pb and K-Ar geochronology in the El Indio region refines the knowledge of the distribution, lithostratigraphy, and age of the sedimentary, volcanic, and intrusive rocks that comprise the regionally extensive Pastos Blancos Group which is equivalent to the Choiyoi Group of the Argentine Frontal Cordillera ...

Measuring the topography and motion of rock glaciers in the Cordillera Principal, Argentina
2018GPS and digital photogrammetry were used to obtain topographic and motion data for the El Altar, QDM, and Los Azules Rock Glaciers in the High Dry Andes of Argentina. A total of 21 survey stations (8 at El Altar, 3 at QDM, and 10 at Los Azules) were monitored between AD 2010 and 2017 at various intervals as allowed by funding and weather conditions at ...
