Percutaneous cervical cordotomy for cancer-related pain: prospective multimodal outcomes evaluation

BMJ Supportive & Palliative Care, 2020
Background Percutaneous cervical cordotomy (PCC) offers pain relief to patients with unilateral treatment-refractory cancer-related pain. There is insufficient evidence about any effects of this intervention on patients’ quality of life.

CT-guided Percutaneous Cordotomy

1989
Percutaneous cordotomy is a commonly applied and effective procedure among the ablative pain surgeries. As plain X-ray does not permit visualization of the target relative to the electrode the chances of obtaining good results are decreased and the risk of complications are increased. The use of CT has been found to be useful in cordotomy.

A new approach for dorsal cordotomy

The American Journal of Surgery, 1958
Abstract 1. 1. In the upper dorsal region the transverse pull of the superficial muscles of the back, the trapezius and rhomboids, results in excessive postoperative pain and occasional wound dehiscence. The use of the figure-of-8 bandage about the shoulders is an unsatisfactory solution to this problem. 2. 2.

Technique of High Cervical Percutaneous Cordotomy

Surgical Clinics of North America, 1973
Percutaneous cordotomy offers relief of pain to many patients who would not otherwise be candidates for cordotomy. The procedure described does not require general anesthesia, and recuperation from a major surgical procedure is not necessary. Another advantage is that the lesion can be monitored carefully.

Experience with Percutaneous Cordotomy

1975
Since FOERSTER (1912) and SPILLER and MARTIN (1912) described and performed the section of the spino-thalamic tract (STT), this method had become a neurosurgical standard procedure in patients suffering from pain not treatable by other means. MULLAN (1965), ROSOMOFF (1965) and HITCHCOCK (1969), developed a simpler semi-stereotactic method, by which ...

Effect of Unilateral Cordotomy on Perception of Dysphagia

Annals of Otology, Rhinology & Laryngology, 2019
Objectives: CO2 laser medial transverse cordotomy is a permanent static procedure performed to achieve adequate functional airway in cases of posterior glottic stenosis and bilateral vocal fold paralysis. Although it is the preferred method to manage long-term bilateral vocal fold immobility, it is widely believed that cordotomy has the potential to ...

Results After Open Cordotomy

1975
The first patient being treated in a new neurosurgical clinic usually does not have a meningioma or an arterial aneurysm. This was also the case in Mannheim, where we had to care first for a 70-year-old man suffering from severe pain in his lower extremities due a rectum carcinoma. He was paraplegic and had lost all control of bladder function.
