Numerical Modeling of Tank Cars Carrying Hazardous Materials With and Without Composite Metal Foam
Large‐scale puncture models consisting of hazardous materials (HAZMATs) tank car with protective steel–steel composite metal foam (S–S CMF) are solved numerically. Tank car plate with added 10.91–13.33 mm thick S–S CMF layer does not puncture. Protective S–S CMF absorbs impact energy, reduces plate deformation, and prevents shear bands formation ...

Mg–Zn composites with a thickness of 0.21 mm were fabricated using roll bonding of a kirigami‐patterned Mg alloy inlay within a Zn matrix. Thermal activation following this process led to the formation of tailored intermetallic structures, which provided the composite with enhanced flexural strength.

Lattice-mismatch-free construction of III-V/chalcogenide core-shell heterostructure nanowires
Growing high-quality core-shell heterostructure nanowires is still challenging due to the lattice mismatch issue at the radial interface. Herein, a versatile strategy is exploited for the lattice-mismatch-free construction of III-V/chalcogenide core ...

The effect of core-shell engineering on the energy product of magnetic nanometals. [PDF]
Solution-based growth of magnetic FePt-FeCo (core-shell) nanoparticles with a controllable shell thickness has been demonstrated. The transition from spin canting to exchange coupling of FePt-FeCo core-shell nanostructures leads to a 28% increase in the ...

Strain engineering in Ge/GeSn core/shell nanowires [PDF]
Strain engineering in Sn-rich group IV semiconductors is a key enabling factor to exploit the direct band gap at mid-infrared wavelengths. Here, we investigate the effect of strain on the growth of GeSn alloys in a Ge/GeSn core/shell nanowire geometry ...

Multimodal Data‐Driven Microstructure Characterization
A self‐consistent autonomous workflow for EBSP‐based microstructure segmentation by integrating PCA, GMM clustering, and cNMF with information‐theoretic parameter selection, requiring no user input. An optimal ROI size related to characteristic grain size is identified.

The Al-Au binary diffusion couple is a classic example of the system exhibiting Kirkendall voiding during interdiffusion. We demonstrate that this effect, which is a major reason for failures of the wire bonds in microelectronics, can be utilized for ...

In this work, a magnetic core‐shell catalyst (HOF‐on‐Fe3O4/ZIF‐67) is successfully synthesized, consisting of a metal–organic framework (ZIF‐67) with magnetic Fe3O4 as the core and a porous hydrogen‐bonded organic framework (HOF) as the shell. The catalyst efficiently activated peroxymonosulfate, resulting in rapid and effective removal of water ...
