BOOK REVIEW - Gabriela Carmen Pascariu and Maria Adelaide Pedrosa da Silva Duarte (eds.), Core-Periphery Patterns across the European Union. Case Studies and Lessons from Eastern and Southern Europe [PDF]

open access: yesEastern Journal of European Studies, 2017
Even though globalization is no longer the central concept that was so popular a few years ago in the literature in the field and media, its impact culminating in turmoil on the financial markets and the economic and financial crisis of the past decade ...

Detection of Core-Periphery Structure in Networks Using Spectral Methods and Geodesic Paths

open access: yes, 2016
We introduce several novel and computationally efficient methods for detecting "core--periphery structure" in networks. Core--periphery structure is a type of mesoscale structure that includes densely-connected core vertices and sparsely-connected ...

Core-Periphery Structure in Networks (Revisited)

open access: yesSIAM Review, 2017
Intermediate-scale (or 'meso-scale') structures in networks have received considerable attention, as the algorithmic detection of such structures makes it possible to discover network features that are not apparent either at the local scale of nodes and edges or at the global scale of summary statistics.

Plasma extrachromosomal circular DNA as a biomarker in EGFR‐targeted therapy of non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Detection of extrachromosomal circular DNA (eccDNA) in plasma samples from EGFR‐mutated non‐small cell lung cancer patients. Plasma was collected before and during treatment with the EGFR‐tyrosine kinase inhibitor osimertinib. Plasma eccDNA was detected in all cancer samples, and the presence of the EGFR gene on eccDNA serves as a potential biomarker ...

Revealing the core-periphery structure of cities

open access: yesPhysical Review Research
The distribution of urban services reveals critical patterns of human activity and accessibility. Proximity to amenities like restaurants, banks, and hospitals can reduce access barriers, but these services are often unevenly distributed, exacerbating ...

Evaluation on shear modulus of cylindrical honeycomb core structures

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu
The objective of this study is to evaluate a shear modulus of cylindrical honeycomb core structures with various core sizes and curvatures. Honeycomb core structures exhibit high rigidity only in the out-of-plane direction and cannot effectively support ...

The rise of film production locations and specialised film services in European semi-peripheries

open access: yesHungarian Geographical Bulletin, 2018
The research on a creative economy has been gaining momentum globally in the recent years, but the associated concepts such as the cultural economy, the creative class, creative cities and so on, have typically been urban or national in orientation ...

Intein‐based modular chimeric antigen receptor platform for specific CD19/CD20 co‐targeting

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CARtein is a modular CAR platform that uses split inteins to splice antigen‐recognition modules onto a universal signaling backbone, enabling precise, scarless assembly without re‐engineering signaling domains. Deployed here against CD19 and CD20 in B‐cell malignancies, the design supports flexible multi‐antigen targeting to boost T‐cell activation and

Improving PARP inhibitor efficacy in bladder cancer without genetic BRCAness by combination with PLX51107

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Clinical trials on PARP inhibitors in urothelial carcinoma (UC) showed limited efficacy and a lack of predictive biomarkers. We propose SLFN5, SLFN11, and OAS1 as UC‐specific response predictors. We suggest Talazoparib as the better PARP inhibitor for UC than Olaparib.

The core-periphery model with three regions [PDF]

open access: yes
We study a 3-region core-periphery model à la Krugman and compare our results with those of the standard 2-region model. The conditions for the stability of the dispersion and concentration configurations are established.
