Krugman's Core-Periphery Model with Heterogeneous Quality of Land

Urban Studies, 1999
In 1991, Krugman developed a general equilibrium model with two sectors and two regions, from which two patterns of industrial location could be deduced endogenously, namely symmetric dispersion at 50 per cent and total concentration. In this paper, we present a very simple extension to this original model.

Core-Periphery Model in Discrete Time - An Analysis

SSRN Electronic Journal, 2014
This paper is devoted to the understanding of the emergence of chaos in the discrete time version of the core-periphery model proposed by Currie and Kubin (2006). To this purpose, we present a careful and thorough analysis of the model, including proofs of relevant unproved statements.

A Dynamic Brain Drain in the Core-Periphery Model

SSRN Electronic Journal, 2010
The aim of this research is to explore the effect of a lower return on education in peripheral regions of a country compared to core regions on the decision of individuals in each region to acquire human capital by advancing their education. In addition, the study examines how these decisions may endogenously increase the income gap between the core ...

The Core-Periphery Model and Endogenous Growth

1997
This paper presents a model in which long-run growth and industrial location are jointly endogenous. Specifically, it introduces Romer-Grossman-Helpman endogenous growth into Krugman’s core-periphery model with footloose labour. The paper focuses on stability of the symmetric equilibrium, showing that growth is a powerful destabilising force.

Core-Periphery Models, Regional Planning Theory, and Appalachian Development

The Professional Geographer, 1994
This paper employs a core-periphery perspective to review regional planning theory and examine the spatial dynamics in Appalachian development which span 25 years of Appalachian Regional Commission programs. Improved conditions, defined by increasing incomes in counties, are examined.
