Profiling core-periphery network structure by random walkers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Disclosing the main features of the structure of a network is crucial to understand a number of static and dynamic properties, such as robustness to failures, spreading dynamics, or collective behaviours.

Discrimination of benign from malignant breast lesions in dense breasts with model-based analysis of regions-of-interest using directional diffusion-weighted images

open access: yesBMC Medical Imaging, 2020
Background There is an increasing interest in non-contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for detecting and evaluating breast lesions. We present a methodology utilizing lesion core and periphery region of interest (ROI) features derived from ...

Imaging Hallmarks of the Tumor Microenvironment in Glioblastoma Progression

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2021
Glioblastoma progression involves multifaceted changes in vascularity, cellularity, and metabolism. Capturing such complexities of the tumor niche, from the tumor core to the periphery, by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and spectroscopic imaging (MRSI)

The core-periphery model with three regions [PDF]

open access: yesPapers in Regional Science, 2009
We study a 3-region core-periphery model à la Krugman and compare our results with those of the standard 2-region model. The conditions for the stability of the dispersion and concentration configurations are established. Like in the 2-region model, dispersion and concentration can be simultaneously stable.

Characterization of Cortical Glial Scars in the Diisopropylfluorophosphate (DFP) Rat Model of Epilepsy

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, 2022
Glial scars have been observed following stab lesions in the spinal cord and brain but not observed and characterized in chemoconvulsant-induced epilepsy models. Epilepsy is a disorder characterized by spontaneous recurrent seizures and can be modeled in

Resource effect in the Core–Periphery model

open access: yesSpatial Economic Analysis, 2019
This paper develops an extension of Krugman’s Core–Periphery (CP) model by considering a competitive primary sector that extracts a renewable natural resource. The dynamics of the resource give rise to a new dispersion force: the resource effect. If primary goods are not tradable, lower trade costs boost dispersion, and the agglomeration–dispersion ...
