Pathology Reporting of Thyroid Core Needle Biopsy: A Proposal of the Korean Endocrine Pathology Thyroid Core Needle Biopsy Study Group [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Pathology and Translational Medicine, 2015
In recent years throughout Korea, the use of ultrasound-guided core needle biopsy (CNB) has become common for the preoperative diagnosis of thyroid nodules. However, there is no consensus on the pathology reporting system for thyroid CNB.

Needle Tip Force Estimation using an OCT Fiber and a Fused convGRU-CNN Architecture [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Needle insertion is common during minimally invasive interventions such as biopsy or brachytherapy. During soft tissue needle insertion, forces acting at the needle tip cause tissue deformation and needle deflection. Accurate needle tip force measurement provides information on needle-tissue interaction and helps detecting and compensating potential ...

Optical Fiber-Based Needle Shape Sensing in Real Tissue: Single Core vs. Multicore Approaches [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Flexible needle insertion procedures are common for minimally-invasive surgeries for diagnosing and treating prostate cancer. Bevel-tip needles provide physicians the capability to steer the needle during long insertions to avoid vital anatomical structures in the patient and reduce post-operative patient discomfort.

PLXDC1+ Tumor‐Associated Pancreatic Stellate Cells Promote Desmoplastic and Immunosuppressive Niche in Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study uncovers the activation, heterogeneity, and regulatory roles of pancreatic stellate cells (PSCs) at single‐cell and spatial levels. It further identifies PLXDC1+ PSCs near aggressive LRRC15+ cancer‐associated myofibroblasts and SPP1+ macrophages, forming a desmoplastic and immunosuppressive tumor niche that promotes CD8+ T cell exhaustion ...

Therapy decisions after diagnosis of prostate cancer in men with negative prostate MRI

open access: yesThe Prostate, Volume 83, Issue 1, Page 56-63, January 1, 2023., 2023
Abstract Background To investigate the clinical implications of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) negative prostate cancer (PCa) in a cohort of men undergoing transperineal prostate biopsy. Methods We included all men without prior diagnosis of PCa undergoing transperineal template saturation ± fusion‐guided targeted biopsy of the prostate between ...

Prospective Evaluation of Unprocessed Core Needle Biopsy DNA and RNA Yield from Lung, Liver, and Kidney Tumors: Implications for Cancer Genomics

open access: yesAnalytical Cellular Pathology, 2018
Context. Targeted needle biopsies are increasingly performed for the genetic characterization of cancer. While the nucleic acid content of core needle biopsies after standard pathology processing (i.e., formalin fixation and paraffin embedding (FFPE ...

Flexible transbronchial optical frequency domain imaging smart needle for biopsy guidance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Transbronchial needle aspiration (TBNA) is a procedure routinely performed to diagnose peripheral pulmonary lesions. However, TBNA is associated with a low diagnostic yield due to inappropriate needle placement.

Single‐Cell Analysis Clarifies Pathological Heterogeneity in Tenosynovial Giant Cell Tumor and Identifies Biomarkers for Predicting Disease Recurrence

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
MP3 tumor cells, a specific subpopulation of tumor cells in D‐TGCT, regulated the differentiation of CD34+ Fbs into MMP3+ Fbs and APOE+ Fbs through COL6A3 − (ITGAV + ITGB8) interaction. APOE+ Fbs activated IL‐1B+CCL20+ Mφs through the CXCL12/CXCR4 axis. IL‐1B+CCL20+ Mφs and MMP3+ Fbs participated in the local invasion of D‐TGCT.

Ultrasound‐based radiomics score for pre‐biopsy prediction of prostate cancer to reduce unnecessary biopsies

open access: yesThe Prostate, Volume 83, Issue 1, Page 109-118, January 1, 2023., 2023
Abstract Background Patients undergoing prostate biopsies (PBs) suffer from low positive rates and potential risk for complications. This study aimed to develop and validate an ultrasound (US)‐based radiomics score for pre‐biopsy prediction of prostate cancer (PCa) and subsequently reduce unnecessary PBs.
