A Core-collapse Supernova Neutrino Parameterization with Enhanced Physical Interpretability

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series
We introduce a novel parameterization of supernova neutrino energy spectra with a clear physical motivation. Its central parameter, τ ( t ), quantifies the characteristic thermal-diffusion area during the explosion.

Towards Realistic Progenitors of Core-Collapse Supernovae

open access: yes, 2011
Two-dimensional (2D) hydrodynamical simulations of progenitor evolution of a 23 solar mass star, close to core collapse (about 1 hour, in 1D), with simultaneously active C, Ne, O, and Si burning shells, are presented and contrasted to existing 1D models (

Grain Boundary Space Charge Engineering of Solid Oxide Electrolytes: Model Thin Film Study

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates unprecedented control of grain boundary electrical properties in solid electrolytes. Selective diffusion of cations through grain boundaries in thin films enables 12 orders of magnitude variation in ionic resistance, proving that systematic chemical modification of grain boundary electrical properties is feasible.

Core‐Collapse Simulations of Rotating Stars

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2000
We present the results from a series of two-dimensional core-collapse simulations using a rotating progenitor star. We find that the convection in these simulations is less vigorous because a) rotation weakens the core bounce which seeds the neutrino-driven convection and b) the angular momentum profile in the rotating core stabilizes against ...

Thickness‐Dependent Skyrmion Evolution in Fe3GeTe2 During Magnetization Reversal

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Thickness‐ and field‐dependent magnetic domain behavior in 2D van der Waals Fe3GeTe2 is studied using Lorentz TEM and micromagnetic simulations. A patch‐like domain phase evolves from skyrmions during magnetization reversal, and step edges between thickness regions act as pinning sites.

Deformation and Degradation in 18650 Li‐Ion Cells Under Freeze‐Thaw Cycling

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates the impact of freezethaw degradation of 18650 cells via combined electrochemical and x‐ray imaging studies. High‐resolution synchrotron X‐ray tomography reveals deformation of the jelly‐roll structure and delamination of electrode active materials in cells cycled at 1C and 4C. These structural changes are quantitatively assessed

Exploding Core-Collapse Supernovae with Jittering Jets

open access: yes, 2011
We argue that jittering jets, i.e., jets that have their launching direction rapidly change, launched by the newly formed neutron star in a core collapse supernova can explode the star.

Solvent‐Free Bonding Mechanisms and Microstructure Engineering in Dry Electrode Technology for Lithium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Dry electrode technology revolutionizes battery manufacturing by eliminating toxic solvents and energy‐intensive drying. This work details two promising techniques: dry spray deposition and polymer fibrillation. How their unique solvent‐free bonding mechanisms create uniform microstructures for thicker, denser electrodes, boosting energy density and ...

Gravitational-wave and Gravitational-wave Memory Signatures of Core-collapse Supernovae

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
In this paper, we calculate the energy, signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), detection range, and angular anisotropy of the matter, matter memory, and neutrino memory gravitational-wave (GW) signatures of 21 three-dimensional initially nonrotating core-collapse ...
