Dislocation Core Energies and Core Fields from First Principles [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2009
Ab initio calculations in bcc iron show that a <111> screw dislocation induces a short-range dilatation field in addition to the Volterra elastic field. This core field is modeled in anisotropic elastic theory using force dipoles. The elastic modeling thus better reproduces the atom displacements observed in ab initio calculations. Including this

Statistics of Diffusive and Localized Fields in the Vortex Core [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2007
The statistics of the field structure in the vortex core surrounding phase singularities in random wave fields are measured and calculated for diffusive and localized waves. Excellent agreement is found between experiment and theory. The variation of phase with geometric angle is deterministic, depending only upon the eccentricity of elliptical ...

Wide-band optical field concentrator for low-index core propagation [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the European Optical Society-Rapid Publications, 2006
We propose a novel chirped structure consisting of a low index polymer core bounded by modulated multilayer claddings, to realize an optical field concentrator with virtually zero propagation losses in a wide spectral range, independent of wave ...

MISALIGNMENT OF MAGNETIC FIELDS AND OUTFLOWS IN PROTOSTELLAR CORES [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2013
We present results of 1.3 mm dust polarization observations toward 16 nearby, low-mass protostars, mapped with ~2.5" resolution at CARMA. The results show that magnetic fields in protostellar cores on scales of ~1000 AU are not tightly aligned with outflows from the protostars.

Magnetic Fields from Filaments to Cores [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
How important is the magnetic (B-) field when compared to gravity and turbulence in the star-formation process? Does its importance depend on scale and location? We summarize submm dust polarization observations towards the large filamentary infrared dark cloud G34 and towards a dense core in the high-mass star-forming region W51.

GRACE—Gravity Data for Understanding the Deep Earth’s Interior

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2020
While the main causes of the temporal gravity variations observed by the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) space mission result from water mass redistributions occurring at the surface of the Earth in response to climatic and anthropogenic ...

Development of core competencies for field veterinary epidemiology training programs

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science, 2023
A workforce with the adequate field epidemiology knowledge, skills and abilities is the foundation of a strong and effective animal health system. Field epidemiology training is conducted in several countries to meet the increased global demand for such ...

Validation and Application of Two New Core Stability Tests in Professional Football

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
The purpose of the first study was to validate two newly proposed core stability tests; Prone Plank test (PPT) and Closed Kinetic Chain test (CCT), for evaluating the strength of the body core.

Influence of different data selection criteria on internal geomagnetic field modeling

open access: yesEarth and Planetary Physics
Earth’s internal core and crustal magnetic fields, as measured by geomagnetic satellites like MSS-1 (Macau Science Satellite-1) and Swarm, are vital for understanding core dynamics and tectonic evolution.
