On the force field optimisation of $$\beta$$-lactam cores using the force field Toolkit

open access: yesJournal of Computer-Aided Molecular Design, 2022
AbstractWhen employing molecular dynamics (MD) simulations for computer-aided drug design, the quality of the used force fields is highly important. Here we present reparametrisations of the force fields for the core molecules from 9 different $$\beta$$ β -lactam classes, for which we utilized the force field Toolkit ...

Quantum Omni-Synthesis I: Core Field-Theoretical Framework

open access: yesQuantum Reports
The Quantum Omni-Synthesis (QOS) framework is inspired by the cosmological constant problem, the dark sector, and the tension that arises when gravity is treated as purely geometrical while quantum fields remain defined on a fixed background.

Geomagnetic Dipole Changes and Upwelling/Downwelling at the Top of the Earth's Core

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2018
The convective state of the top of Earth's outer core is still under debate. Conflicting evidence from seismology and geomagnetism provides arguments for and against a thick stably stratified layer below the core-mantle boundary.

Liver organoids: modelling complexity in homeostasis and disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Studying liver in vitro has been challenging because simple 2D cell cultures fail to capture liver's cellular and architectural complexity. To bridge this gap, scientists increasingly use organoids, 3D liver models which better mimic liver composition and function. This review examines recent advances in liver organoid complexity and realism, discusses

Testing a toroidal magnetic field imaging method at the core-mantle boundary using a numerical dynamo model

open access: yesEarth, Planets and Space, 2014
I quantitatively test a method of toroidal field imaging at the core-mantle boundary (CMB) using a synthetic magnetic field and core surface flow data from a 3-D self-consistent numerical dynamo model with a thin electrically conducting layer overlying ...

Epigenetic reprogramming of lineage switching in cancer

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cancer cells rarely commit to a single identity. Epigenetic mechanisms and tumor microenvironment cues push epithelial cells toward flexible, hybrid states that can shift into mesenchymal, neuroendocrine, or stem‐like fates, driving metastasis, drug resistance, and tumor heterogeneity. Targeting the epigenetic regulators behind these transitions, using

A Fundamental Mechanism of Solar Eruption Initiation in a Multipolar Magnetic Field

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
Recently, we established a fundamental mechanism of solar eruption initiation in which an eruption can be initiated from a bipolar field through magnetic reconnection in the current sheet (CS) that is formed slowly in the core field as driven by ...

Autophagy and mitophagy in pancreatic β‐cell homeostasis and their involvement in diabetes pathophysiology

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This review focuses on the role of autophagy and mitophagy in maintaining pancreatic β‐cell function and homeostasis. We discuss how genetic defects affecting these pathways contribute to the development of type 1, type 2, monogenic, and gestational diabetes. We further explore their potential as therapeutic targets. Created in BioRender.

On the equivalence of the hybrid particle–field and Gaussian core models

open access: yesThe Journal of Chemical Physics, 2023
Hybrid particle–field molecular dynamics is a molecular simulation strategy, wherein particles couple to a density field instead of through ordinary pair potentials. Traditionally considered a mean-field theory, a momentum and energy-conserving hybrid particle–field formalism has recently been introduced, which was demonstrated to approach the Gaussian

Partial depletion of plasminogen activator inhibitor‐1 decreases subcutaneous fat cell hypertrophy and liver cholesterol in high‐fat‐fed female mice

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Obesity raises blood levels of PAI‐1, a protein linked to metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease in people with obesity. In female mice fed a high‐fat diet, partially lowering PAI‐1 led to smaller subcutaneous fat cells and lower liver cholesterol, without changing body weight or insulin sensitivity.
