Effects of corneal epithelial remodeling on corneal asphericity after FS-LASIK and Trans-PRK: A prospective study

open access: yesIndian Journal of Ophthalmology
Purpose: To observe the changes in corneal epithelial thickness after FS-LASIK and Trans-PRK surgery and to investigate the impact of corneal epithelial remodeling on Q-value and HOA.

Diagnosis of limbal stem cell deficiency based on corneal epithelial thickness measured on anterior segment optical coherence tomography

open access: yesIndian Journal of Ophthalmology, 2017
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the epithelial thickness in the cornea and limbus in limbal stem cell deficiency (LSCD) using anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT).

Dystrophia Smolandiensis is characterized by a novel NQO1 variant and a distinct phenotype from COL17A1‐associated epithelial recurrent erosion dystrophy

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose To determine the molecular cause of the two epithelial recurrent erosion dystrophies, Dystrophia Smolandiensis and Dystrophia Helsinglandica, and to identify phenotypic differences between the two conditions. Methods DNA samples and clinical data from structured interview records were obtained from the Swedish families in which ...

Diurnal variation of corneal epithelium and stroma measured by optical coherence tomography

open access: yesThe Pan-American Journal of Ophthalmology
Purpose: The purpose of the study is to evaluate whether there is a significant diurnal variation in the thickness of corneal epithelium and stroma, in healthy volunteers, using corneal optical coherence tomography (OCT).

Neurokinin‐1 receptor activation protects against cardiac fibrosis, inflammation and diastolic dysfunction in type 2 diabetic mice

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Background and Purpose The pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM)‐induced cardiomyopathy involves cardiac fibrosis that leads to diastolic dysfunction. We established that replacement of lost substance P (SP) that occurs in T2DM reduces cardiac fibrosis and decreases inflammation in T2DM mice and non‐human primates.

Femtosecond Laser Created Corneal Allogenic Intrastromal Ring Segments for Keratoconus

open access: yesClinical &Experimental Ophthalmology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background To evaluate the clinical outcomes of femtosecond laser‐created corneal allogenic intrastromal ring segments (femto‐CAIRS) in keratoconic eyes using a newly described nomogram. Methods This retrospective case series recruited 85 eyes from 75 patients.

Corneal epithelial thickness profiles in dry eye patients with or without primary Sjögren’s syndrome

open access: yesBMC Ophthalmology
Purpose To describe corneal thickness (CT) and corneal epithelial thickness (CET) in dry eye patients with/without primary Sjögren’s syndrome (pSS-DED/nSS-DED) and evaluate potential associations with dry eye symptoms and signs.

Biopsy of Iris and Anterior Chamber Tumours: Fine Needle, Minimally Invasive and Excision Techniques ‐ Review

open access: yesClinical &Experimental Ophthalmology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Several benign, inflammatory and malignant lesions can present as iris or anterior chamber masses, including iris naevi, cysts, adenomas, leiomyomas, nodules, vascular tumours, melanomas, metastases, as well as iris and pigment epithelium adenocarcinomas. Fortunately, benign iris lesions are much more common than malignant tumours and many can

Stage‐Associated Microglial Subpopulations and Dynamics in Vascular Pathogenesis of Oxygen‐Induced Retinopathy

open access: yesCell Proliferation, EarlyView.
In the oxygen‐induced retinopathy (OIR) mouse model, two distinct microglial subpopulations play opposing roles: highly glycolytic microglia (HGM) promote neovascular formation via Pkm2, while Mrc1/CD206‐positive phagocytosis‐associated microglia (PAM) facilitate its regression.
