Corneal thickness: measurement and implications
Experimental Eye Research, 2004The thickness of the cornea was reported in more than 100-year-old textbooks on physiological optics (Helmholtz, Gullstrand). Physiological interest was revived in the 1950s by David Maurice, and over the next 50 years, this 'simple' biological parameter has been studied extensively.

To compare the repeatability and validity of corneal pachymetry by a corneal confocal microscope with a z-axis adapter (Confoscan 4.0 with z-ring adapter: z-CS4) versus ultrasound (US) pachymetry in the measurement of central corneal thickness (CCT).CCT in 44 eyes of 44 subjects was determined with z-CS4.

Corneal Thickness Change in Eyes Undergoing Corneal Cross-Linking
American Journal of Ophthalmology, 2012I READ WITH INTEREST THE RECENT WORK BY HOLOPAINEN and Krootila and would like to ask the authors to clarify some points about their study and offer comments on their findings. The authors stated in the Methods that the central corneal thickness was recorded. However, the documented results in the Results was the corneal thickness at the thinnest point.

IOP: Central Corneal Thickness
2009Ever since the recognition that glaucoma was associated in many patients with a firm eye, ophthalmologists have been attempting to measure intraocular pressure (IOP) clinically. Prior to the introduction of Goldmann Applanation Tonometry (GAT) in the 1950s, tonometry techniques were inconvenient and unreliable.
